All of a sudden one of my twins, who will soon be 4 months old, keeps rolling on his side and staying that way when he is on his playmat. Is this what comes before rolling over?

Yes, that's what DS1 did before rolling over. Then came the period of constantly having to put him back on his back because he hated being in his tummy and couldn't turn back!

These developments are so exciting! X

DD is about to turn 5 months and I think around 2 1/2 months she started rolling to her side. She even sleeps like this. Around 4 months she would roll over once in a while. Yesterday she rolled over about 7 times so a few days shy of 5 months I'm calling her a roller. Looks like your LO will be rolling soon!

So thought I would dig out this thread as he rolled over today, twice, while trying to get his brother's foot. I was like a mix of "whoohoooo" and "Oh shit", because now I am worried he will turn over and not be able to turn back again at night or something. Is this a common worry to have?

Mesa just turned 4 months and she rolls on her side often too. Havent quite made it all the way over yet, but I expect it anytime. I hear ya!

It can be trouble if baby doesn't like to be on his stomach. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much :)

I have the exact same concern! My son started rolling on his tummy at 4 months but can't roll back. That said, I've been told that if they are unhappy on their tummy they will protest (and he does) so you will definitely hear about it. Thankfully this period is normally short term and once baby can roll from tummy to back you will breathe a sigh of relief! For the moment, I keep a close eye on him at night (he sleeps in our room) and they say if they roll on their stomach to flip on to their back.

With DS1 he used to do it in the middle of the night and shriek until OH or I turned him back. It lasted abt 3 weeks until he learned to roll from front to back and we breathed a big sigh of relief 😁 x
