Hi Girls

I am 34 and a bit weeks and since my 20 week scan baby has been altering betwteen a transverse and a breech position. I know that they can turn at the last minute but I was just wondering if anyone had actual experience of their baby moving after 34 weeks?

What worries me is that she is alternating between breech and transverse but not making the move...it just seems weird to me. Like she is trying to go head down but not making it!

Any advice/experience would be appreciated!

Thanks x

Great question :) My lad has been excatly the same.. breech and transverse for weeks. I saw the consultant last Thursday and she said it was unlikely he would turn because he has been that way for so long. I kinda doubted this was correct as I have heard of babies turning very late. Im not going to argue with her as no point.. I am having a c-sec anyway. My friend has reflexology on her feet to turn the baby at 39 weeks.. worked a treat for her :) x

My little one was transverse a couple of weeks ago. I "think" LO is now head down... I head off to the midwife in just over an hour so hopefully will find out for sure then! I think they say it's not too big a concern until your 36 weeks as after 36 they have no room to turn but below they do.

Thats really interesting hun, that she said she won't turn. I have heard that babies turn right before labour but thats exactly what I was wondering, because she seems to move between transverse and breech and never go head down, thats why I wonder whether she will turn now or whether she has got used to that position and won't change.
The thing is my hospital just keep saying well we will try and flip her at 37 weeks if she hasn't moved, but I really really dont want a ECV as I feel it is a little unnatural, I would rather have a c section if it comes down to it.

Don't worry! My friend was telling me about his brother's baby being in breech position right up until 38 weeks, when the midwifery unit decided to give them some help turning him around.
I think he said that if he's/she's still breech at 36 weeks, they usually do another scan and make sure they're turned head down.

my LO is transverse now. Would I need a c-sec if she stays like this? Silly question probably, but I have no idea or would they try to turn her? x

@Jojo - going by the ticker in your signature, I really wouldn't worry. Mine was transverse until about 32 weeks (which is why I reckon my bump was blobbish instead of round). I suggest LOADS of power walking (without killing yourself) - I've always walked rather briskly and when I do now she definitely moves down [she's usually very slightly slanted instead of just head-down]

My little boy is breech at the moment. I had a midwife appointment around a week ago where she said it looks like they're either going to have to turn him or I'll have to have an elective section. She booked me in with my hospital with my consultant for tomorrow & I believe here they scan you to double check, and then discuss your options.

At the moment I'm going to decline having him turned because I'm not comfortable with it. So it looks like a section for me - BUT I'm pretty sure they have to scan just before they perform the section to make sure he's still breech. If he isn't breech, then I can go home and await natural labour!

Hope that helps a bit - I'll let you know what happens tomorrow at the appointment with my consultant.

No if she stays like that hun, they would definately try and turn her doing a procedure called an ECV and if that didnt work it would be a c section. However they have plenty of time to turn up until 37 weeks so hopefully all will be ok and she will move on her like my little one!

thanks guys. I would do alot of walking if it wasnt for my bloody SPD. I can't stand properly let alone walk :( Having accupuncture for it fri cso hopefully this will help x

I will have to do some serious butt wiggling instead

Thanks hun, and do come back to this thread and let me know what the consultant says. I don't know why but I just don't fancy the ECV option either, I guess I will just have to wait and see cause I am worried my hospital try and stop people having c sections and will expect me to have the ECV done.

Yeah I'm worried my hospital will pressure me into having the ECV done. My friend has had two babies and both times they were breech & she declined the ECV and had elective sections - so hopefully they haven't changed and I get a nice consultant that listens to me rather than makes me feel like an idiot! My friend's cousin had an ECV done at the same hospital as well, and that failed...so

How far are you hun?

I don't know what it is about them, I just really dont fancy the idea of one although some people rave about them and say they have worked for them. I just find it unnatural trying to push her into a position she is not comfy in, and I have an anterior placenta and even though I don't think it means its riskier, I just dont like the idea of them prodding me about with that at the front!
I would rather have a c section if it comes down to it cause even though its more recovery for me, that doesn't bother me. But anyway lets hope it doesnt come down to this anyway!!!

I am 34+2 hun, but my hospital won't do anything until 37 weeks.

My LO is also transverse right now, I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and if he/she isn't head down by then I'll probably be referred for ECV.

From what I've heard though plenty of babies do still move later on and get themselves in the right position, so there's always hope!
