Well the good news is, I am ok. DH on the other hand...not so great.

His semen results:
1st SA:
34 million
38% motility
4% morphology (Druger criteria)

2nd SA:
54 million
40% motility
4% morphology

How bad is this? Doc is doing a special chromosonal SA next week.....if results are negative we are going to try cycle monitoring...if they are positive on to IVF!

I am so upset. I sit here at work with tears coming from my eyes. DH is devastated. He has been put on a fertility supplement for men....and we're going to stop having wine on the weekends.....anything else we can do?

Is there hope?

Hi hopeful,

I don't know the answers. But you sounded so down. Please don't give up there is always hope!

Someone will be along soon with more answers and help for you. There are people on here who have managed to improve their DH's count with different suppliments and things.

In the meantime...:hugs:

mobility should be 50 so he is a bit low on that... my DH is to, his was 51 within the first 1.5 hours which is ok as it is over 50 but then it was a 37 after 3 hours of sitting.
morphology - is his 4% that are deformed or properly formed?... when we got DH's results back his came back %10 properly formed... so I am going to say only %4 of his are formed well... especially since they suggested IVF instead of IUI. PM me, I did respond to your earlier one. We are very much in the same boat.

54 million sperm isn't bad though so his count are ok. You are having the same problems as us!

Hi

There are life styles changes you can make to try to improve count and morhology. Loose boxers, no hot baths, no sitting with laptop on knees. Also supps can help, if you look on the Zita West website there is a list of ones that can help. Giving up smoking, alcohol and drugs too.

You might find that lifestyle changes do help. My dh also had an ultrasound to check for physical reasons for low count.

We had poor morhology results and are currently about a month away from out first ICSI. It took me a while to come to terms with conceving like this but the outcome's the same so I now see it as a positive thing.

I know how hard it is, and I think men find these things harder to take than if it were a problem with us girls. There are lots of us here with male factor and there have been lots of success stories with ICSI too.

PM me anytime and good luck

Kath xx

we didn't do it to change SA results (DH is fine), but in the time in between two SA's, DH cut out caffiene (switched to decaf tea and coffee, no energy drinks), and his numbers doubled.

I have also seen people on here who have had amazgin results taking Maca root supplements. We have never done an SA as I know I have a problem, but I got him taking them anyway... especially cause he sits a lot at his job. There are a couple of threads in here about it though. Its also not expensive. I got it from the Vitamin Shoppe for $10.

Hey hun

So sorry to hear your results.

Did they do the 2 SA's 3 months apart? The good thing is that your DH has a good count and that is excellent news - his motility isn't far off the 'normal' range either. Did your FS encourage your DH to make all the usual changes, take the multi vits etc? before doing the 2nd SA?

We also have male factor and DH had a karotype blood test in Feb which tests for choromosomal abnormalities. Still waiting on the results unfortunately as it has a 5 month turnaround!

Hoping you get some good news soon hun :hugs:

The SAs were done 4 weeks apart. And my FS won't give you the results of the first one because she said you need two for comparison as a cold, lack of sleep can throw counts off. So we haven't done anything to bring the numbers up yet. But we are going to. I just feel so hopeless. I know it's because I am still in shock.....but does this feeling of emptiness ever go away?

I would say that the tests shoudln't be done so close together. Sperm can take up to 3 months to develop so if he did have a cold or something the first time round that will still be showing up with reduced number/motility in the second test.

I know it is a horrible waiting game but i would get another test done in a couple of months. There ARE lots of things that can be done to improve it.

:hugs:
