I'm 23+5 and for the last week been getting some achey pain in my back, it's hard to describe where it is worse because my whole back is in a constant dull ache =[ nothing seems to make it go away and I'm hardly getting any sleep because of it so I'm pretty grumpy too! I've tried baths and hot water bottles which offer some temporary relief, I've also tried walking around to try and ease it off but it just won't budge!! I have a midwife appointment this week so I'm going to bring it up then but I just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem and have found anything that works? I'm worried because if I'm already getting it now it's going to be awful when I start getting bigger, I'm hardly showing at the moment!

hey hun i am!!!! im in agony!!!!

i have invested in a maternity back support from mothercare its so worth it really helps! feel like your in a corset but worth every penny - maybe worth a try?

rang my midwife this morning and they said i can only have paracetamol and a hot water bottle they cant do much about it unless it gets ridiculously painful we can be put for physio.

its a pain but im sure it worth it!

hehe i've just posted on your thread too! yeah i guessed they would recommend as much as that, i've found it only helps for a little while though and I can't exactly carry a hot water bottle around all day haha! I'm looking up that maternity back support now as i'm willing to try anything that would even just give the slightest amount of pain relief especially for when i'm at work as that seems to be the trickiest time to try and cope with it as i walk around and stand for long periods of time =[
yep will all be worth it in the end =D

Hi Hun,

I have been getting really bad back and groin pain (Im 24+1) and my midwife referred me to our hospital physio department. They have given me a bump support which is amazing and obviously being on the nhs it was free, they were really so good, the appointment only took 10 minutes and they gave me some more info on exercises and things you can try.

I really recommend doing that rather than buying one!

:)

Oo thanks I have a midwife appointment on Wed morning so I'll ask about that, they are usually pretty good so fingers crossed I can get something sorted =]

its best to actually go to ur dr's for back problems.
this is because they can examine u to discover the actual problem... precribe medication if needed nd refer u for physio (its quicker than when ur midwife refers u apparently).
other than medical help all i can suggest is a cushion to support ur back nd rest as nd when u need it.
xx

Two things:

First, get an orthopedic belly support belt. I have one, they are really good. I was so surprised. I could basically feel my back being immediately relieved when I put it on. I just left it on right in the store. Health insurance might even cover (mine should, have to file in the receipt though).

Second, how about swimming? I had to stop running last month (cervix issues) and started swimming instead. Which I'm usually not too keen on (all the water and the people etc), but now I just LOVE it. Could stay in the water the whole day, except that, well, have to sleep and eat and, pooh, work etc. Even better, the pool where I'm going they have a wellness area with a whirlpool that does a nice back massage. I know it sounds totally decadent (and is terribly expensive actually) but it really helps me a lot.
