Hi all

I recently saw my FS, our background ttc 4 years unexplained category. All tests/surgery has shown me to be working correctly each month. Dh has slight morph issues but we are told nothing to worry about- and as such we have both been On conception vits for months.

In august we finally got out bfp but miscarried at 5 weeks.

My fertility specialist put this down to bad eggs, due to my low weight (hereditary I need to add for the weight) my question is how can he just guess poor eggs when no test or procedure has demonstrated that? And also is there a specific test they could do to check this, other than day three bloods and the ultrasound-all of which were fine?

Thanks for reading, I'm getting to the stage of looking at private treatment but don't want to waste more money only to have his 'thoughts' confirmed.xx

I have heard eggs can be too hard and difficult for sperm to penetrate them, I would have though the only way they can tell that is by IVF when they actually retreive some of the eggs to look at them.

I don't know really though but didn't want to RnR

I hate it when Drs give us these opinions based on nothing, i think they should be banned from doing so, they have no idea of the worrying and the amount of googling it causes! GGGRRRRRR

Hey hun-we are totally unexplained too ( I have also been pregnant before) and just had first failed IVF. A great test for unexplained is IVF as, already mentioned, compatability can be an issue but they can also see the quality of the embryo's. We have 100% fertilisation and great embryo's but no luck this time. It still could be other things but at this stage they put it down to luck and if we fail again, they will look into more testing.

We had a private round and the NHS FS when we went back to see her told me it must have been the quality of my eggs! I explained they were good quality but she was quite dismissive so dont worry they certainly get it wrong!#

I think until they do more tests/IVF they cannot and should not tell you its the egg quality x

Thanks girls, that's kinda how I felt he shouldn't have just assumed it's that without any evidence. It was such a difficult appointment and I'm feeling really low as I'm not sure what to do next.

I guess ivf is the next step but my parents would be funding it and I hate the thought of wasting their money.

Anyway thankyou for your kind words-it helps loads hearing another perspective.xx
