I went for my private cervical scan with a consultant, and they've discovered my cervix has shrunk to just 2cm!!! Last week i had it scanned by the NHS and it measured 3.4 and yesterday my usual doc said everything was fine and not to worry. Then today the private doc said i should be worried, took ages scanning my cervix, and has given me a referral for tomorrow to see an expert at St Thomas's Fetal Unit.

I'm so scared! I'm back lying in bed til then, and am in a state of shock that things have changed so quickly. On one hand i'm so relieved i paid to see someone today, or else i dread to think would have happened. And at least now i know i've been referred to a professor who is meant to be the UK expert on cervical problems in pregnancy, so at least i feel now there is nothing more i can do but leave it to the experts. So fingers crossed my cervix stays the same, so at least there's enough to give me a stitch...

My question is...has anyone else been on bedrest for something like this? Is there a best way to lie? Ie, is bum raised in the air a good idea? What will put the least pressure on my cervix?

Waiting to here what time i'm being seen tomorrow, but just hope it's not too late. So worried my little baby will pop out in the next 24 hours!!!

Trying to take my mind off it, but the telly is so crap!

Sorry to hear this, and sorry I don't have any advice. Just curious as to what they mean when they say your cervix has shrunk? x

I've had cervical scans with my last 3 children and have my 1st one for this pregnancy on Thurs.

They can be inaccurate too depending on the different sonographers and where they actually measure from to be honest.

One particular scan I had at 35wks showed my cervix looked the same as it was 4wks earlier yet I gave birth to Lauren later that day:rofl:

Keeping my fingers and legs crossed for you babe:hugs::hugs::hugs:

No chick....at 17wks it should be long and closed...the longer, the better really. It should only start to shorten towards the end of pregnancy as it begins to efface (sp?) ready for birth.

Hi Honey, I'll pm you with my mobile if you fancy a chat. Believe me I know just how terrified you are, at least you're going to be seen by an expert tomorrow and if they managed to get a stitch in the teensy amount of cervix I had left (8mm at front and less than 2mm at back) I am sure they'll be able to do the same for you.
In the meantime, I was told that lying flat and on your left side puts the least pressure on your cervix.
Hang on in there sweetie :hugs: xxxx

Hoping good hope for you honey. :hugs:

I'd try to sleep as much as I could if it were me, either that or drink tea and watch crap films.

Hold tight Hon I'm sure there'll be something they can do for you. :hugs:
