Anyone been told they are having a big baby (9-10lbs) and after birth he/she was normal size?

I went to my MW appt and was tale that my baby is on the big size, expected around 9 lbs, I am terrified now.
I was measured on the top scale (I think almost 2 weeks ahead)

I have been told to expect a 9 and a half pound baby by a scan (I am only 5 foot 2 and have a small body frame).....I am terrifed of this! They don't seem to care though and said my body wont produce a baby that it cant push out. I personally think this is a load of crap. I have been tested for GD and it came back negitive.

ahhhh!!! me too - i had scan today and was measuring more than 3 weeks ahead!!! I know they have my dates wrong by approx 5days (something they totally disregard) but still a big boy - weighing almost 4lb already they reckon!! It's gotten me a little worried - plus i've got little size 3 feet which allegedly corresponds to pelvic size - really hoping this is an old wives tale! The Doc did say that the weight will even out over the coming weeks -but i'm not convinced!

I was the other way round. I was sent for a scan two days before Amy was born because I was measuring big and was told that she was actually average sized and that my bump was largely water.

Two days later a 9lb 13oz baby emerged through the sun roof. I have learned to take their measurements with a pinch of salt.

you lucky you got told you were having a big baby i kept telling my midwife i was having a whale baby and she say noo he'll only be about 8lbs at max he came out at 10 pounds 9 oz !! dont worry isnt as bad as everyone makes out yeah theres more work and i got a episiotomy (sp) which killed but it was all worth it and the pain just went away when i had my little boy in my arms :flower:

Thanks ladies. I was a bit surprised when she tale me that, as I was born only 7lbs 3oz. and my whole family are quite small (except my dad who was 6'1) and hubbies family are not very big. All the babies in the both our families where around the 7lbs 3oz mark.

My mum is also worried now and saying its not good to have a big baby. and now I feel even worse with my self :(

At 25 weeks I was measuring a while month ahead
4 whoole weeks :(

MW was absolutley fine and said it should have not grown so much by tomorrow (next appt) but I'm a lot earlier on than you are ... so not much help .. sorry hun!

:flower:

Did the MW just tell you this from feeling your tummy?? If so it really isn't a very accurate way to work out the weight of a baby!

Don't worry whatever weight your baby is you will be fine! Why does your mum not think it is good to have a big baby?? Xx

My friend was measuring 2/3 weeks ahead and was expecting to have a big baby well she had her little last week and she weighed 7lbs 1oz she did have a lot of water which is why she was measuring ahead, she said it was like a tidal wave when her waters broke.

Have you had a growth scan which is the most accurate way of estimating little ones weight.

Big babies are apparently easier to birth due to gravity. I wouldn't know, I've only had one, at 9lb 3oz! 7lb or 9lb, I think the ring of fire would feel the same.

I was told mine was going to be over 8 pounds and he was 7 lbs 6 oz. They really can't know.

Yes, she just touched my tummy and said he is big boy.

I am 36 weeks and was measured 36cm.

My mum think that if the baby is too big (over 3.5 kg) means too fat! :dohh:

I had a growth scan (privet) and he was measured 3lb 13oz at 30+3week.

Head measured on dates, torso almost 33 weeks and legs 32 weeks...

my "oh you are going to have a dinky one" turned into an average 2.5month old weight at birth lol

i have had a scan which says she is normal size this time but erm, every one knows those scans are inaccurate, how you can get an idea of weight from measuring bones and belly i do not know, at the end of the day my baby was no tmuch bigger in length than an 8-9lber but was 11lb 6onz so their measurements even on a scan would not have predicted his weight by 2.5 lbs!

i would take it with a pinch of salt, all the fundal measurements are rubbish i was measuring 1cm under for my big boy and this time 2cm over but am expecting a normal sized girl . . . . hmmmmm

Ah hun I wouldn't worry yourself about it then. The baby may have just been in a position that made him feel bigger then he actually is.

Lol your baby really won't be fat at all! Even if he does turn out to be a slightly larger baby he will probably just not put weight on as fast once born to even it out.

Just seen you had a private growth scan, they weren't big measurements so I'm sure he is still on that same growth line now. Don't worry, just take what the MW said with a pinch of salt xxx

Thanks ladies. I know I am worried for nothing. I can't do anything about it now anyway... what will be, will be

I have the same thing - my partner was over 12lbs when he was born but the midwife & consultant have never really shown an interest in this and then were surprised when I started measuring ahead at 30 weeks.
I had the GD test at 25 weeks and it was clear. What shocked me was when I went for a growth scan at 36 weeks. There is a normal amount of amniotic fluid. The baby is measuring at the top of the tummy circumference scale which is (according to the ultra sound lady) the most accurate measurement for estimating weight, but no one would guesstimate how big the baby will be! All my midwife kept saying is this is a good size baby! And the consultant was not bothered at all.
This week at my 39 week appointment I'm measuring 42 cms and my midwife is now calling it a generous baby.............
I'm in West Wales and I've seen other people in the UK have guesstimate weights so I'm unsure as to why no one will give me an answer???

My friend who is very slim size 6 had to have a caesarean with her 9lb baby as the midwife and consultant advised the baby wouldn't fit out of her pelvis!!!
Is it true that feet size relates to pelvic size???

Im 5ft 3 and was a size 12 with my first. There was never any suggestion that he would be big but he weighed 9lbs. Im glad they never put it in my head as I had a natural labour and escaped with a teare that didnt need stitching. Dont worry too much about it it will come out what ever. Im expecting a big baby this time round but not worrying about it due to the ease of the first :)
I may live to regret these words!! :p

My friend was told her baby was about 10 pounds at 38 weeks, and the baby was just a little over 8 pounds. BIG difference, huh?

I've been told I'm having a big baby ad chances are i'll need a section, I know I'm big as been measuring two weeks ahead fundal height and growth scan wise since 24 weeks but the thought of a section scares me, I just wish they'd not said anything, especially as they have now decided to just leave me til baby is ready to come out after advising a section or induction at 38 weeks!!! Apparently at 37weeks he weighed 7 and half pounds and is just getting bigger and bigger. Think head is too big to drop into my pelvis too....I'm literally crapping myself as my DS was 8lb2oz and he had to be pulled out as was too big for me to push on my own as he got stuck!!!!!
