Need some advice please ladies

Does anyone else have a belly button piercing? And what have you/are you planning to do about it as your bump grows??

I know you can get 'stretchy' bars that expand with you as the bump grows, but i'm not sure if that will look a bit daft and whether I should just give up and take it out? I'm only 16 wks, and bump nowhere near big enough yet to have to make the choice, but want to prepare myself!

My Mum has always hated my piercing and reckons it has to go because I'm going to be a Mum now and it's "not right"!!! I'm not sure I'm ready to get rid of it - it's the ONLY "rebellious" thing I did as a teenager and I've always had a lovely stomach so I've really enjoyed it. Of course, chances of getting my body back to normal post-pregnancy are pretty slim, so maybe I really wont want it anymore??

Does anyone else have experience with this??? what should I do?!?

I've got a stretchy one in now hun. Keeping my piercing in. :)

I got quite a few piercings and all Ive done regarding the belly button 1 is that Ive gotten a bigger bar..TBH the size hasnt changed that much so far so I havent need to upgrade to the bigger size yet..prob need 2 around 30 weeks and Ive already got quite a bit of bump already. Hope that helps.

I took mine out :) But could prob still wear it! I have more issues with my nipple ring which I can't undo :(

i had to take mine out as i do have quite a big bump now :)

If you want to keep it get a flexible maternity bar for it and put it in asap. It is likely that it will get a bit red and angry as it stretches with your bump and you might get a stretch mark at each end of it because of the scar tissue but it will calm down a little while after bubs is born. Make the decision soon though because the sooner you do it the better your chances of it still looking nice after, even if you take it out though you will still probably get the stretch marks. xxx

i have got a flexi maternity one in, that lasted me all through my first pregnancy

I took mine out around 15/16 weeks & started putting it through every other day to keep the hole open. I stopped around 26 weeks as I fogot and it started not fitting.

I put it through a couple days ago and it goes in fine! I've had mine done 7 years. x

I've taken mine out and every couple of days i put one of my bars through just to make sure i don't have any issues with it closing up. I took it out after 3 months, it just felt uncomfortable having it in!

I dont have a belly piercing, but someone I know had one and kept in the original bar too long and she had two really big stretch marks, like horns, coming from her belly button. x

I took mine out, I've had it since I was 16 and I am 27 now. But my hole won't close up, I once didn't wear it for a year than went to Jamaica and wore it no problem. But I have heard of those pregnancy bars you can get if you want to keep it in.

Some of the pregnancy ones you can get are really pretty :)

I took mine out soon after finding out, but I've had it done for so long that I know it'll stay open no matter what, have had it out for over a year before.

It's not really recommended that you take it out and keep putting a bar in every few days to keep it open, it can irritate the piercing and cause infection (which obviously won't harm bubs or anything but can be painful for you) especially when you start to get bigger and your skin has stretched.

like someone else said on here just be careful as if u leave an ordinary bar in too long it can tear and leave a nasty scar, happened to a friend of mine, best to get a flexi one

That's good news, thanks everyone :) Will def look at getting a nice maternity one (always a good excuse to buy new jewellery!!) xx

I've still got mine, but as the bump stretches my skin I am worried it could easily tear out as seems to be closer to the surface? Trouble is I can't get the ball out, I have had it in 12 years and never taken it out....need OH to get the pliers to it but that seems scary, I must do it though....

i'm a body piercer, and i find everyone is completely different..
you can get 'flexi bars' just go back to where you had it done and as for a pregnancy retainer or even better..ask for one to be made out of ptfe (its alot more comfortable)
:)

I've got mine done top and bottom and have two retainers in. xx

I took mine out and my nipple piercing very early on in my pregnancy, and then if I want them after the birth and breast feeding I will get them re-pierced! x

im keeping mine in, Where do you buy thr maternity ones from? I never knew they existed???
