Hi Girls,

I'n new here....although i have been lurking for a while. I was hoping somebody could help with regards to recieving benefits?

I have a 14 month old boy and at the moment work part time BUT will have to give up my job very soon due to childcare and other problems...I've looked into all options but i have no choice.

So what i need is to find out what i would be able to claim as a single, unemployed mum? Im thinking Child Tax Credits, Child Benefits and Income Support is this correct? and what amounts? Also i know i would get Housing Benefit and Council Tax benefit.

I just need to figure out my finances asap as im also in alot of debt:nope:

Thankyou for reading, i hope you can help me

go to entitledto.co.uk nd that should help u out.
just out of curiosity... why can't u work anymore??
u will get 80% of ur childcare costs paid... plus working tax.
if ur working part time then i'm guessing 16 hours a week... so the childcare u are left to pay shouldn't be that much.
i have lots of debt... but the only way i could have a hope in hell of payin it off is by working.
xx

You will be financially better off working part time than not working at all hun, i've been hunting for a job just so i can have a bit of extra cash (and i start tomorrow thank god!) so i don't think you should think about giving up work just yet...

If you work between 16-29 hours you will most likly be better off financially, you will get most of your housing benefit paid for you and around about £500 (a month) off tax credits (depending on loads of different things, that is just an average figure) and child benefit and the money you earn from work.

Not working you only get child tax credits (around £200) child benefit and housing benefit (you dont get that much more for not working weirdly enough) and income support which is about £250 a month.

So if you are working you are (very) roughly about £450 better off. Then taking off nursery fees (an average of £150) you're about £300 better off!

And that isn't even including maintenance off the father!

Put your details into here and you'll see what i mean:

If you put your details in as working and see what you get, then put your details in as not working and see what you get, you'll see you are better off working hun. Big hugs :hugs: and hope you sort everything out xx

Agree with Bloodbinds. You're definitely better off working part-time because of the Working Tax Credits, which will also cover most of your childcare costs if you're on a low-income. Try the calculator and give them a call. Just be persistent.

if you are like me i was working part time but evenings and i had to give up my job due to childcare.

you can only get help with child care cost if you are working between certian hours of the day i worked from 6.30 till 10pm each night and had no help what so ever.

the best thing to do is phone the job centre and ask about claiming i have just put my claim in and waiting for it to come through but while you are waiting you get a 4 week roll on o your child/working tax money so you dont go with out.
