A better alternative would be to switch one of the microfibre inserts for a natural fibre one. I like bamboo the best because it's more absorbent than cotton and stays softer than the normal hemp you can buy. Adding a natural fibre underneath one microfibre insert means you still get the fast absorption of the microfibre but then you get the long term wee storage from the natural fibre. Microfibre can leak if squashed but natural fibres don't as much. If you normally need both MF inserts I would switch one for a natural insert of the same size.
my son is a really heavy wetter at night so i use a bamboo night genie booster as well as some hemp and it works great, he stays asleep for 13 hours and is kept nice and dry.
I quite like the bamboo pocket nappy inserts Little Lamb sells - they're around £4 each new. I got mine in one of their crazy Facebook sales so they were well worth it.
P'tits Dessous ones get good reviews but they're more expensive.
I like my Rumparooz 6r bamboo ones for pockets. Again they're not cheap but they come in two parts so you could probably split them (although the smaller part isn't as absorbent it should be fine with a MF insert too).
Really I think any bamboo insert would do. You might find it cost effective to buy Little Lamb bamboo boosters and just use a few of them. In fact that's probably what I'd do - they're 10 for £12 so even if you use three together that's only £3.60 and because they're thin they dry quickly and are very versatile.
Or an even cheaper option would be to buy prefolds (preloved?) and just trifold those into the nappies. You might be better with smaller ones than you'd normally use, so they're not too bulky along with the MF.
Thanks ladies, i brought some of the ebay ones cant go too far wrong at just over £1 each.
Are bamboo inserts suitable to use as the only booster or would they not absorb quick enough? For the 3 month old we only use one insert so his nappy isnt too bulky.
You are normally fine with just bamboo. Microfibre and bamboo is often the best combination for toddlers but younger babies should be fine without microfibre as they don't wee so much at once.
I've just started using the bamboo inserts and they seem rubbish. There very thin and look more like boosters to me than inserts. I used a microfibre and a bamboo and my 2year old had out weed it within 2hours.
