as far as recovery in the hospital?

This question is probably more for US ladies, as I think the hospital stay is shorter for UK ladies.

With DD1, I breast fed, but ended up having to pump in the hospital from the start because of an anatomy problem I had with one of my breasts. Anyways, I had a csection with her and was so tired I couldn't even stay awake for company, let alone to feed her :( What are your plans as far as sending your LO to the nursery and possibly having them bottle feed so you can get some rest, or making sure you only breastfeed no matter how often they wake you up to do so?

Last time worked okay for us, and we sent her to the nursery for a night and she had a little formula so I could get some rest. I was still able to BF for about 6 months (pumping) after leaving the hospital. But I'm worried we got lucky and that we probably shouldn't have done that, and not sure what to do this time around.

Has anyone thought of this or decided what they will do? I know some people are 100% against any formula, so I understand that.

I have exclusively breastfed my two for 7 months, no formula at all! Was completely knackered but knew that's just the way it works!!! When I had my dauter, I (perhaps stupidly some may think) didn't even have a bottles or formula in the house!

Just the way my first 2 have gone so can't see much difference in the third tbh!

I breast feed with both daughters, but I also supplimented with formula. With my 2nd daughter I had no choice since she had to be in special care for a couple days. But we did fine, babies are remarkable and adapt to what they learn.

Thanks - I just don't want to mess it up. Unfortunatley, I doubt I will be able to BF this one as long as DD1, at least not exclusively. I'm going back to work in 5 or 6 weeks, and even though I can pump there, I doubt I will be getting enough to keep up exclusively for a long time. I'm not opposed to formula though, so that makes a big difference I guess. :)

Are you talking about just at the hospital? There, at the hospital with my previous two births, we kept our LOs in our room, so I was able to BF the entire time. I'll do that again, as it worked out for us twice. Just me, though. It made it easier for me because my husband stayed the entire time so I was able to rest between that. That's how it worked out for us, anyway. :)

Yes just in the hospital - because there's the option of keeping baby in the room, or having the nursery look after them at night so you can get some rest.

I won't be giving this baby any bottles or formula if possible. Last time they made us give DS at bottle with formula at 6 hrs old and he never latched! I had to pump for 9 months for him, it was hell. I'm going to be most likely overly cautious this time, but I can't go through that again!

I "plan" on exclusively BF at the hospital. Hopefully my body works and me and baby can figure it out. I hadn't planned on having to pump there, but it's definitely something to think about!

Thanks. Yeah, we kept our LOs in the room. But I did use the nursery a few times during the day while I was there, so I could get things ready or shower if my husband left for something. The hospital was pretty awesome with that, and if LO was hungry they would just bring LO back so I could BF. :)

Oh and I will most likely pump as they seemed to encourage that to get milk going?

Yes pumping exclusively is some work and time consuming - I'm hoping things are different this time around! I guess it might just be one of those things that you just go along with the flow and see how things are at the time!

Oh and I will most likely pump as they seemed to encourage that to get milk going?

I will say, that pumping pretty much right off the bat, my milk was in FAST! I had milk I would say by day 2, but might have just been a fluke for me lol

At the hospital where I gave birth to both my DD, they ask you before you deliver what your feeding plans are, and before they even take the baby out of the room once he/she is born, they affix a sticker which shows if they are being BF or not. If you send them to the nursery, then they bring the baby to you every so often to attempt to feed.

With my youngest, she latched right away and I only took her to the nursery when my OH and I wanted to grab a bite to eat alone in the cafeteria.

I don't want my LO going to the nursery unless medically neccessary for some reason so she will be staying in room with us, and I do plan on breastfeeding on demand. I realize that I will probably be exhausted but it is only part of it. And if she was sent to nursery then would be given bottle and I just don't want to take the chance of her getting confused or lazy. And if have to supplement with a little bit of formula can still do all breastfeeding cause you feed LO through a tube that sits right next to your nipple and they take the tube and breast at the same time.

My milk came in really fast as well. And I always had a HUGE supply even just with pumping, so certainly didn't hurt me either! lol.

We ve planned just to BF as from a frenz exp. It took 3-4 weeks fr the baby to latch amd then after just 2 mnths baby was on formula only!!!!! And i want to BF fr atleast 6-8mnths... Though things might b different fr u all as im a stay at home mommy-to-be.... This is our first one

I want to BF no matter what or how oftem I'm woke up, but OH says it will depend on how labor goes and family says it would be good to try to get rest before taking LO home. I get scared that if he takes a bottle the first time he won't BF, but we'll see. I'm sticking with no matter what until I get to that bridge

I breastfed both mine, where we live we give instructions to the nursery if you decide to put the baby there , and a sticker is but on the bassinet saying breastfed only etc
With my first I had GD and he had low sugar so I had to supplement formula as my milk was not in yet, I did it once and didn't have to do it again, and he fed for 17 months!

As with my son, I will keep this one with my at the hospital and allow no supplementing, sugar water, pacifiers, etc. Was it fun to wake up every 1.5 hours to feed a very tiny newborn? Heck no, but worth every minute of it -)
For us, it is what worked. The nurses and doctors were very supportive of me, which is always a plus.

I'll BF no matter what although I dont plan on being in hospital at all. i did the same with my daughter and remember feeling like a total zombie for the first few days cos I was so tired. All worth it though :)
