I've had the shock of my life this evening! I was in the living room and Holly was in the dining room banging on the radiator cover. I can see her through the door which is open between the rooms. She just bangs on it because she knows I come and tell her to stop. She likes the reaction! I heard a huge crash and she'd pulled the radiator cover down on herself and was lying on the floor on her tummy with the radiator cover on top of her. She was screaming so much :(

It's a big radiator cover and I was so scared she'd broken her back or something. I cuddled her for a bit and she was ok, but she has big red marks down her back :( My husband is at work but said to keep an eye on her and get ambulance if needed. She seems fine now and is running around and throwing herself about as if nothing has happened.

I'm still shaken from it now! I lifted the radiator cover in two halves and put it down in the corner of the room. It's not going back up again! It is bloody heavy! That must have hurt her so much :(

This is the radiator cover that fell on her:

And this is her back now:

I feel so bad!

How awful.

Good that she's up and about after that, but would definately keep an eye on her and take her into A&E if she starts to get any pain.

Awww poor Holly and poor you :hugs:

I think she's going to be absolutely fine if she's throwing herself around as if nothing happened. It might be a bit tender when she lies down in a certain position or something. If it were me and she was upset at bedtime I'd give some calpol in case it's throbbing or something.

But try not to feel bad, these things happen all the time! It's just impossible to know exactly what babies will do next. I just turned around today and Joni was underneath the sofa rooting through a bag that contained God knows what that I shoved under there so she couldn't get it! I didn't even know she could move that far (she scooted on her back). Then I looked again and she had the laptop wire in her mouth. And then I tried to pull her out and apparently the front of the sofa is lower than the side because I wedged her head :dohh:

Actually this is all just making me look like a bad mum, but my point is that nothing really bad happened, and babies do get themselves into all sorts of pickles despite our best intentions. Holly will be fine xxx

i would take her to get her checked hun that looks really painfull poor baby her poor back your best to be on the safe side hope shes ok <3

Oh my goodness! What a fright you must have got! :hugs:

If she seems ok, she most likely is and although you are obviously going to blame yourself, please don't. These things happen and it would have been impossible for you to know this was going to happen.

Nothing like this has ever happened to me.. Yet! I know once LO is more mobile that I am in for some frights.

It's horrible when stuff like this happens. My LO pulled the fire guard on himself. It's not a safety fire guard either, it was a decorative one that was metal and heavy. He was ok but had bruising. This sounds awful but I was a too scared to take him to a & e cos of reading about reports to social services so I just monitored him at home. He was fine but I don't like the fact I didn't feel comfortable to get him checked out.

Awww! Poor holly!!!! Hope she's ok- and you too! You must have had such a fright! Xxx

:(. I pulled one off the wall at my nanas when I was much older (7/8) and it landed on my foot. Hated the evil things ever since

Hugs hun :hugs: our new fireguard nearly fell on lo tonight. It can happen so easily. Don't blame yourself. Holly has probably totally forgotten about it now x

Poor little thing! I take it its quite heavy then to mark her like that?

Don't feel bad it's not your fault xx

Yes it's quite heavy :( The marks seem to be fading now though, thank goodness!

Poor baby, that must have been so scary! I hope it no longer hurts and you're both ok xx

Oh no how awful! Poor Holly, I'm glad she seems okay now. They really are remarkably resilient!

Just a little note though to whoever was worried about social services checking up on them, please don't let that stop anyone taking their kids to be checked if you feel it's necessary. I'm sure you wouldn't decide not to take them if you thought there was any chance they needed it, but comments like that really perpetuate this fear of social services and you never know who might read this and be too frightened to get help. (Bevs I'm not saying Holly needs checking just commenting on a previous post) :hugs:

I'd definitely take him to a&e if he needed it but I genuinely do think twice about minor things because of stuff I've read. I know it's irrational but its in my mind.

Don't believe all you read. I am an A&E sister and as much as child protection is a big consideration in the assessment and care of children we are all aware about accidents happening to all parents, if an accident really should have been avoided or several have occurred, the 1st referral would be a health visitor, not a social worker. If anything not going to A&E when you should is much more of a red flag. I don't mean to offend, but please don't be afraid of ever taking your child to A&E, we not that scary and we really don't mind worried parents either, a lot of us are mums and dads too.

Must be a day for baby accidents....read my Bad shopping Mummy thread =[ Poor babies..luckily they won't remember!
