The arrival of my little boy- Harrison
On Monday 18th at 6days overdue I was convinced after trying everything I would end up being induced so had accepted it and I Monday cleaned walked and DTD! All I which I had tried several times to induce labour! On Tuesday morning at 530am I woke up with strong backache- not timeable as it was constant! By 630 I was I agony so woke DH an asked him to get some paracetamol! I too the an decided on a hot shower which seemed to work until the time came to get out!
I think I was still in denial but at 7 I asked DH to call triage and see what they said (I was desperate to not be sent home so didn't want to go in an get turned away) so the lady basically just laughed at my constant pain an said I had backache as I wasn't feeling any contractions or tightenings! Was told to stay at home until try started! By 730 I flipped an said were going in as DH wanted to go into work as they said nothin was happening! We arrived at triage at 8 and was checked by the midwife who was shocked to say I was 5cm and Wouk definately be staying! I felt so much better by this point and decide that DH an I would walk to the cafe first for some toast! At 9ish we went off to the birthing centre I the hospital and were assigned the most amazing midwife and by 930 I was I the pool which was relief to my backache! (It was confirmed baby had turned back to back) at 1030ish I decided on gas and air which took the edge off and made me focus on breathing through contractions! At 12 she asked for me to get out of the pool to be checked and I was so shocked when she said I was fully dilated! I couldn't believe it had been that easy! So I got back in the pool and the midwife said baby should be here by 1ish! Well 1, 2 ad 3 o click passed by and I started loosing it as contractions were coming thick ad fast and nothing was happening! I was begging for diamorphine and she laughed saying your fully dilated you've done it! At 330 I was still complaining so she checked me and no change! She asked me to stay on the birthing ball to see if change of position helped- it didn't baby was still up high
I so wanted pain relief now and after bein checked again and consulted it was decided baby needed helping so I was taken over to delivery suite and an epidural inserted in preparation for a potential forceps delivery! )if your worried about coping with pain the epi was amazing and didn't hurt at all going in an I'm afraid of needles! Of you really need it the pain won't bother you I the slightest! At around 5 a doctor came and said baby was still facing the wrong way so u was put on a drip to try and speed things up and bring baby down for an hour they I was to try pushing for 2 hours! 8pm- baby still stuck/ heart rate dipping when pushing an one very fed up me who had ha no progress since 12 and was gutted I was now hooked up to everything after such a good start! At 8 it was decided I would go off to theatre for either forceps or c-section! I'm theatre the doctor wanted to try forceps but after discussin it with the consultant (who thought it was a waste of time I opted for a section) DH was in theatre the whole time and it took an hour to get me numb as I didn't want the initial epi topped up it had wore off during pushing- 4 doses and an hour later I still wasn't numb so I had a spinal block which he said would hurt but I felt nothing- thanks to the epi already being in! I was we'll and truly numb and finally at 22.07 our baby arrived screaming! He was cleaned up and placed on me weighing in at 9lb9! No wonder he got stuck!
I had been terrified of having a section but by that point I didn't care and wanted it over and recovery has been surprisingly easy and I was home 30 hours later with out little bundle of joy!
