Well the random tightenings turned into labor!!! They started friday morning and would go on for 2 hours then stop, be gone all day, come back for a couple hours and stop, well saturday they became more regular and when they made me stop in my tracks and were better timed I told my DH. We watched, and waited for 2 hours (even took a shower) to rule out false labor. It was 5-1-2 not 4-1-1 Called L&D they told us to come on down and it was another 45 minutes to the hospital. Once I got there and was check I was 2cm still but 80% effaced! Baby girl was rubbing her head right down on my cervix. Normally they don't admit people until they are in 'active' labor at 4cm but one of the nurses took pity on me (and the fact that there wasn't another soul in l&d) and said that she would monitor me for an hour and look for any changes. An hour later I was a 3 stretched to a 4 so they let me stay! About 45 minutes after that I asked for an epidural because the pain in my back was unbearable, I was almost crying (I already have back issues, labor did not help lol) they wanted to make sure I was a 4 almost 5 before they gave an epi. waters went about fifteen minutes later while i was grasping my cousin's hand asking her why on earth my contraction wasnt stopping after the minute and half it normally did and after a loud pop and gush it was confirmed, they gave me half a shot of stadol and I dilated to a 6! Thank god for epidurals! I was throwing up because of the pain beforehand and the epi allowed for some reprieve of pain. I labored the rest of the night and around 4 am I could feel my right side completely (left side still numb) but I was 8cm so they decided to call the doc. Doc didn't show up till 8am (wasn't allowed to push till doc showed up, and they weren't going to readjust the epi, needless to say my right side is completely useless and knotted) I pushed how they wanted me to, legs up, chin tucked, the whole 9 yards and was getting nowhere! It hurt worse for the chin tuck than the contraction, literally the only thing i could focus on while they were telling me to do it. Finally I went with my gut, straightened out my back stretched to high heaven with my head and beared down the rest of my body which actually worked! Nurses and attendants got upset that chin wasnt tucked (kept trying to tell me to tuck it, even though the only times they said i was bearing down properly was when it wasnt) they wanted me rolled into some horrendous looking ball but I found my groove and my poor baby girl after spending way too much time in the birth canal, after I pushed my way was born 10 minutes and 3 contractions later. Charlotte arrived 5lbs 5oz and 19 inches of absolute beautiful! Full head of hair and bright eyed.
