Hi

I took Sophie to her first toddler group last week, and I'm taking her back tomorrow. The woman who runs it was offering a packet of digestive biscuits to all the mums for the LOs, and I didn't take one for Sophie because she doesn't get biscuits as snacks at home - she always has fruit etc. Then I started wondering if I should have taken one for her and if I was being really mean!

What would you do? I know one biscuit a week wouldn't do her any harm and I don't want to make her different from the others, but I don't want her developing a taste for biscuits either! :flower:

I think if your LO doesn't notice then it's not a problem. If your LO notices and wants one, I don't think one every now and then hurts. My LO has a very healthy relationship with food - eats loads of healthy stuff but he also has sweet stuff every now and then :)

I don't see anything wrong with a plain biscuit for a snack every so often. It won't give her a taste for biscuits imo. You have to do what you want though and not worry about if it is mean :flower:

Wow if you went to the toddler group I go to youd be shocked!! They get a biscuit on arrival and when plays over they all sit at a big table and tuck into crisps and buttons, at first I was the mean mummy but I caved eventually as I felt everyone was talking about it!

^ Wow whist I don't mind these little treats a biscuit and a glass of milk ours gives them but chocolate buttons etc, daily? I'm not sure. Treats are for Mummies to give imo!

at toddler group it's not daily, more like weekly, right?!

I thought toddler groups were a couple of days a week? Or is this parent and toddler stay together? Mine attended nurseries now an under 5's pre-school group so I could be confused  haha

Our toddlers have toast for a snack and diluting juice. After toast they come round with a plate of biscuits ranging from plain biscuits to choc chip cokies to custard creams and they ask mum first if LO can get a biscuit!!!x

This is just a parent and toddler group twice a week!! But they get as much as they like and because Olivia doesn't get much at home (you can tell as she's always the last at the table eating) She eats loads and screams when I tell her she isn't getting anymore I think the Playgroup only gives fruit on a daily basis.

We have a group on a thursday and we all have a picnic first - the boys typically have a lot less healthier lunch that day (crisps/biscuit/sometimes chocolate etc) with sandwichs and humzingers. IMO everything in moderation - as long as its not every day xxx

I remember having this dilemma the first time I went to a toddler group that did biscuits because they did biscuits and diluted squash and I only ever gave Aisling water and biscuits like Organix or Plum. I nearly refused but they all sit down together and eat together and it would have been so so obvious if she wasn't having what everyone else was and I figured it was once a week so there was no real harm. She never asked for juice or biscuits at home so it didn't backfire at all and it was nice for her to enjoy it with everyone else :)

Our toddler group gives them fruit and water! I hate it though because it's always oranges and they always give her a rash and stain her clothes :( or apple slices that look brown and ugly!

They had some of those crispbread things with spreading cheese on as well, and cartons of milk with straws but I'm not sure if Sophie would cope with crispbread yet (it was the kind that is really hard and crunchy and quite thick, not the thin kind like ryvita, if that makes sense!) She doesn't have many teeth yet and is teething really badly just now and just wanting soft foods at the moment. She can't suck through a straw yet either. I had taken her cup with some water in it and some fruit from home in case she was hungry but she didn't show any sign of wanting anything.

There were only about 5 babies there, and it was a fairly big room and they were all spread out, so at least they weren't sitting down at a table together - I don't suppose anyone would have noticed. If Sophie sees the others with biscuits tomorrow and wants one, I think I'll let her - it's only once a week xxx

At our toddler group (one a week) they have homemade fairy cakes, and a selection of biscuits. I try and steer Ruby towards the homemade cakes but she usually chooses a bright pink party ring biscuit :dohh: Oh well. It's once a week and she doesn't ever get biscuits at home (apart from we occasionally buy a pack of organix gingerbread men) so I just let it go.

I used to go to some toddler groups where the snack was biscuits, and some squash. I totally hate squash, and not a fan of biscuits regularly. For my DD1, we only went to that playgroup once a week, so I let her have the biscuits.

The other playgroups we went to always did fruit and water as snacks. If it was a regular play group, i.e. more than once a week, I would take an alternative snack, eg. cheese and raisins etc..x

oh and the squash is a no no for me still, very luckily Ruby hates it anyway!

Luckily at our surestart centre they have a little mixed snack thing or grapes, cheese, banana etc.

but when we go round our friends house she gives her little girl bags of haribo which definitely isnt something i would give River at home but i know if i made a fuss River would be more interested so she has them :dohh:

Thankfully she doesnt seem to like them and shares them with and just carries the bag around

I go to one group where they serve a whole plate of biscuits, crisps and then buttered toast! I usually end up eating most of it. I usually bring an Organix biscuit for LO to have and a beaker of water. He is fine with that as long as he is eating something. I wouldn't normally worry about one or two biscuits but he hates having his teeth brushed so I try to avoid as much sugar as possible. You can always bring your own food/drinks if you want to.

Ours get rice cakes and bananas - I think if your lo didn't notice then leave it at that x

Wow i feel like our toddler group is mean! They dont really get anything like that!

They get milk or squash, or their own cup of whatever they brought...
Platters in the middle of the table with either sandwhiches, cheese, breadsticks, ALWAYS at least 2-3 fruits, sometimes pancakes with butter on, brioche with ham in, etc, then a yoghurt?

Mummies get buiscuits
