Bleeding after sex- I need your input :)

Hi All! At my 20 week ultrasound, they found I had a low-lying placenta. We had to refrain from sex until our 30 week ultrasound, which they found my placenta had risen- so we got the OK to have sex!

Anyhow, for the past couple of times, I have bled aftewards. At my Dr's appointment on Friday, the Dr. said that was normal and not to worry about it (for all the reasons we know about- cervix is filled with blood, something "poking at it" -Dr said haha, etc etc.) but it is really scary, especially today it was like I had my period-- only I'm 33 weeks!

Anyhow, it's resolved itself, and I have had some braxton hix contractions like usual, but I just wondered- have you had anything like this? Should I be more worried than what the Dr. thinks?

Also, what is the best position (in 3rd trimester) to potentially avoid this? Thanks guys!!

I was told that spotting after sex is normal too. This has happen to me a few times but it's a very little amount. I would call your doctor if it's a lot just to be sure. It would be worth the peace of mind Can't help too much on positions, we're boring just doing doggy style and spooning as my belly gets in the way with the other positions. good luck.

If your bump can accommodate... missionary would probably be good as penetration is not as deep.

We had the same problem in my last pregnancy i bled quite allot after sex and was taken straight to hospital i stayed in had a scan and everything was fine they said they couldn't explain what as wrong but that sometimes it happens better to be safe and ask than leave it.

Thanks guys! The advice is really good. I had a lot of cramping aftewards, which I imagine is what the Dr. explained- that sperm can cause uterine contractions

Seems to me when i do (did) doggy style with my OH i bleed. This postion did not agree with me. And neither did standing up or laying on my belly(done around 20 weeks). So we stayed to the safe postions, missionary,spooning( i think its called),and thats about it. It seemed to me when i stained my stomach muscles id bleed. Just take it slow and have fun

To be honest, if its a lot I would get it checked. Spotting (light bleeding, not like an AF) is considered to be common after sex or an exam but if you get a period like flow I would get it checked

My ob/gyn told me to keep an eye out for that, and said that if I was having regular contraction as well as spotting then to drink water and rest and keep note on how often it was happening- I didn't ever actually spot though, and didn't have the issue with the low lying placenta that you had, I was just in because I had some sort of stomach bug that was giving me contractions and the people were all confused thinking i was spotting and were blaming it on sex... They must have had me mixed up with someone else....but anyway. That was the advice they gave me! LOL
