Oh noooo, you guys. I need to vent, because I'm worried. I just had my 14 week appointment a few hours ago, and she did a vaginal exam using the speculum (no pain) and an ultrasound (over the belly kind.) The baby was fine and moving around and had a heartbeat, and I left really happy. Now back home I just went to the bathroom, and I noticed blood (red) on the paper after wiping. I'm am sure it's vaginal bleeding, not rectal bleeding. It's like when you're on your period. I'm not having any pain, and I plan to call the doctor, but I doubt there is anything they can do. So I'm wearing a liner and waiting to see if it continues and if so, what color and how much so I can tell them.

I haven't had anything like this before after my other appointments. What was different this time was that she did an external ultrasound instead of internal and I think she pressed on my belly a little more this time (she wanted to determine which type of ultrasound to do). She showed us the placenta on the ultrasound but didn't comment on its location.

Ohhh I hope this bleeding stops and everything turns out fine! It bothers me that it's occurring right after my appointment, like what if she accidentally did something? :nope: But I didn't feel any pain during the appointment. I'll keep you all updated.

Thanks for listening to my thoughts, you guys!

Didn't want to read and not reply..... you must be really worried

You have no pain, which is a good sign. Try to take comfort in that any procedures she would have done would have been safe for you and your baby. They wouldn't take unecessary risks unless the baby was already in danger and they do complete these procedures routinely day in and day out.

Do ring the gp however, to put your mind at rest as stressing won't be good for you. :flower:

It may just be the spectulam is what's made u bleed hun! And no pain is a great sign! I'd deffinately ring though or if you in uk ring labour ward xxxxx

I'm so sorry to hear this. She's maybe irritated your cervix with the speculum. Why was she doing an internal anyway? Was it a smear?

She always does an exam to look for infection (inflammation), and she takes some mucus to put on pH paper to check for infection. She didn't scrape the cervix itself.

I tried to call the doctor's office but got the answering machine. (They close here during lunch.) Well it doesn't seem like there is ongoing bleeding. Nothing is showing up on the liner. Just some traces of brown blood now when I wipe. I'm still going to try to call them again to see what they say.

it just sounds like she may have irritated you, i wouldn't worry that much, but call and see what they say :) xx

Sounds like she's irritated your cervix - but thus should settle hunny, I would ring your Mw and ask for advise but I think feet up and it will be gone as quick as it arrived ((hugs))

I could not get in touch with them before they closed (got a busy signal), but the bleeding is not continuing. So I'm going to see what happens tonight and possibly call tomorrow, depending. Thank you so much for the responses!

I would also say she prob irritated u, its not common for them to do internal exams (in Uk) for this very reason. Hope its settled for u now hun xxx

I have a very soft cervix, which bled after a cervical smear in May, and now, any irritation in pregnancy, it bleeds. Unfortunately, for me, am 0 neg, so had to get an anti-D injection (in the bum!)...if you are still red blood bleeding tomorrow (not brownish), then, pls call your doctor/midwife to reassure you...

best wishes

My last pregnancy, my doctor did a pap smear while I was there and I bled for about 24 hours afterward. The cervix is VERY sensitive while pregnant so if she wiped the cervix at all that is probably what caused the bleeding. :hugs:

I bleed after an examination, she said after that she made me bleed so to not worry if i see any blood, it happens often after a vaginal examination when you pregnant.
but call your doc to be sure ,, best of luck

If I was you, I would be refusing any more examinations like that...
Vaginal examinations should be kept to a minimum during pregnancy - she says she's looking for infection? What she's doing is more likely to give you one! Speculums especially are really unnecessary. Not to mention she shouldn't keep messing with your cervix!
She should just be checking your urine for infection. I would be so worried for my baby's health if I was subjected to this, it is not normal practice.
Where do you live?
xx

I am in Germany. Next appointment I will talk to her about it. I thought they usually look at the cervix each appointment to make sure it appears tightly closed? Then they have to use a speculum, don't they? And taking some mucus to check the pH didn't bother me, because she took it from close to the outside of my body, but it might have been the speculum that caused some minor bleeding.

So far, I haven't noticed more this morning, but I called the office this morning, and they said it can happen after an exam but keep a close eye on it and call them again if I see more blood. Keeping my fingers crossed!

No, they shouldn't be checking your cervix at every appointment at all. It's better off left alone, she could risk putting you into premature labour by messing with it repeatedly. The only checks they do over here are your blood pressure, urine analysis and fundal height sometimes. The risk of infection and to your baby is too high for the doctors here to risk multiple vaginal examinations. I hope you get it straightened out with her, I'd find another doctor :(. Good luck.
xx

Yeah I agree with Miss_Divine, I woudl refuse any internal examinations. Have never had an internal throughout any of my pregnancies - its causes too many infections.

This would defintley cause the bleeding, its the same reason why some people bleed after sex - just anything that will irritate the area.

in ireland they dont check you cervix during your pregnancy except there is a problem. Its probably nothing to worry about hun!
