OK about to embark on weaning Leo in a few days time!!!

Firstly he he can't sit unaided yet - is it OK to still use the BLW approach. I don't want to use purees etc.

Also what a re some good first food ideas.

Also how many meals hould I start with. I was going to do lunch first for a week and then introduce evening meals and breakfast over the next couple.

How does that sound.

Thanks muchly

I think it's fine to offer food at each meal from the start, they won't eat much to start with anyway. With BLW there is no need for us as parents to increase their intake steadily as they will do that themselves.

As long as he can sit well in a highchair I think that is fine, however some people disagree and think LO should be sitting confidently unaided. Thing is though, some don; do this until 9 months!

Thanks - I will have lunch with him, but breakfast is a nightmare and dinner is too as Dad doesn't get in til 8

Thats what I was thinking. My daughter didn't sit unaided until 8 months - surely that is way too late to start weaning.

Mind you saying that I don't really want him to cut down on his BF just yet as we enjoy it so much:haha:

I've started weaning and my little man can't sit unaided yet. I asked the HV about this and she said the same - that some babies don't sit unaided until 8-9months and that might be a little too late to start so don't worry about it. He sits fine in his high chair with a little support from the harness and passed the banana test no problem so I started about a week ago.

I would try to sit then down with you at as many meals as possible, because like Claire said, they don't east much in the beginning, but you'll also find that your LO will probably show more interest at some meals than others. Ronan is usually keenest in the mornings with breakfast here.

If his daddy doesn't get home until late, you'll probably find it easiest to give your LO dinner late in the afternoon and just sit and have a snack yourself.

As for first foods, at 6 months pretty much anything goes as long as it's easy enough to handle. I started Women with steamed veg, but he seemstoo find them mostly as appealing as I do taste wise so I either roast, grill our season them if they're steamed too bring out more flavor. Soft fruits like melon, banana, plums, nectarines, apricots etc are also good. Potato and sweet potato tend to go over well, especially if roasted. Rice cakes are a big hit here. He seems to prefer them to bread and you can spread them with pretty much anything. I've done cream cheese, mashed avocado, mashed banana, greek yogurt, fruit purees, peanut butter and combinations of all of the above!
