Hi ladies
Just wanted to know if anyone is interested in starting kind of a book club thread? Pregnancy/TTC related books especially but not only. I am reading a few different books now for my postpartum doula certification and would love to discuss some of the ideas and different opinions and interpretations that are found in them and that others have about them. One is Ourselves as Mothers by Sheila Kitzinger....another is Misconceptions by Naomi Wolf....if anyone else has a any book suggestions or have read these books and would like to have a book club thread that would be great. :happydance:

I am reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" now. It is the first TTC book I have read. I think the only other one I have read was a fiction book by Jennifer Weiner called "Little Earthquakes". How are you liking the 2 you are reading? Are they worth reading or are you just reading them for your certification?

I've just finished reading 'a child is born' by lars hamberger and lennart nilsson..

My mum had the original version bought out in 1980 to explain her pregnany with my little brother to me, I've now bought the newer version which is a lot more factual etc that the first version!

Such an amazing book, i just love the pictures!! xx

Im reading for the certification but cant seem to put Misconceptions down lol..Im finding it good and bad...for many reasons lol...good because it does tell you things that most of the time you wouldnt hear from like..say your Dr or the hospital you plan on using...but it also is written from a feminists point of view..which makes me think she might be telling all the bad of the modern birthing ideals...and it has freaked me out thinking that my hospital will just lie to me..not listen to my requests and end up pushing a C section for the slightest thing lol... but then again that has made me even more determined to find a Dr and center that I love and where I know my wants and needs will count for something and I wont just be another lady having a baby....she writes it in sections like months of pregnancy and then birth and Im right after the birth section so I guess about 3/4s through....

For the certification you are only required to read one book from each section of the reading list..there are 10 sections and about 4-5 books in each section to choose from..but I dont get to go to the workshop until May so I am reading all the books and just going section by section...I just feel like its best to get different opinions and different experiences instead of basing my whole doula career on just one book...

Jessica I still remember the book I had when I was younger..called..How You Were Born...its a great book and even though its been like..20 years..I still remember it!! if I can find it I will definitely get it for my kids down the road...
