what milk are you going to feed your babies?? i just haven't got a clue what to go for?? i was planning to breast feed but i just couldn't get my boobs out in public and would like OH to get up in the night and do feeds so think bottle feeding is the easier option, what do ya rekon??

Im going to bottle feed for both reasons uv said lol and some more, and il be using sma milk

i am going to start of with the sma bottles that you get in boots and babys r us that are ready made, i am not going to do cartons again in hosp as its a nightmare. i used all the different brands with pop and the one she settled on was cow and gate sma made her constipated. x x x

Have you thought about expressing your breast milk and doing it that way rather than breast feed?? That way no need to do infront of people or in public if it worrys u xx

I always said I would bottle feed.. in fact with my first I did for a week but he didn't tolerate it and was really ill, so I started breastfeeding him late.. after that I fed 6 more babies.

As for feeding in public I find there are lovely mom and baby rooms around with separate rooms for breastfeeding in, and I can breastfeed very discreetly anyway with a nursing bra and my t-shirt pulled to the baby's nose.. even had people come over to say how lovely the baby was and they didn't realize till it was too late lol

After a while you don't worry anymore.

my cousins cannot reccomend Apitmil highly enough, they said it's fab for non colicky babies and are insisiting i use it hahaha xxx

both my boys were bottle fed from birth and are healthy, i used avent bottles and SMA gold milk. i started off with the prepared cartons for after birth and few weeks so didnt have to prepare formula and they drink little and often just after birth so theyre perfect and you dont have to make up formula as its already prepared, then go onto making formula milk and my boys were great on that and am doing the same this time round.

thank everyone,i was having a look in the asda n couldnt believe the amount of different brands of baby milk there was!! this is my first pregnancy so i wouldnt have the slightest idea which would be the best.my mum mentioned the breast pumps but i really dont like the look of them!

with both my babies i wanted to breast feed, i tried with both but we just couldnt do it so i switched to bottles.
with this baby i plan to try breast feeding again but this time only for the first few days as i couldnt cope with feeling the way i did last time again.
with ollie we used aptamil as we were told it was good if babys were colicky and was good to stop babies being constipated but ollie got terrible colic and still suffers now with constipation lol we tried a few milks but finally settled with cow and gate x

I haven't even had a thought about what type of formula to use... With #1, the hospital just started with one and then after a day or two they switched to the pink similac (not sure if you have that in the UK) and they sent me home with a bunch of the pre-made cartons... So I continued with that kind.
The pre-made ones are so much easier for when you're first getting started.

I used SMA with my son but if I had to choose again it would be aptamil? x

I hope you give breastfeeding another though simply because the health benefits for you and your child are incredible. Another thing to keep in mind is you can actually get more sleep at night if your nursing just by learning to do it in the laying down position which is incredibly simple to do, so you're only awake for a minute to latch baby and then back to sleep. me and 4 friends all had babies in the same month they all bottle fed and i was the only one who was not sleep deprived. as far as public feeding well you can always pump and carry the bottles as breast milk lasts longer at room temp than any other milk or they sell some really nice covers so that you're not exposed will feeding in public. As a last alternative you could also opt to do both that way your baby still gets the health benefits, especially the immunities which they can't get from formula.

Do you mind my asking what the problem was when you tried nursing? I only ask because there are a lot of common problems that can be overcome with just a little guidance.

Also once you perfect it because it is rough for the first week or two with sore nipples (they have to toughen up a little) it's the most wonderful rewarding experience, nothing like it x

that's why i was going to breast feed because of all the benefits from it and is meant to be best for baby.i don't know if its true but have also heard it helps you lose baby weight faster n helps your organs move back to normal quicker (dont know if correct)

I see you're in the uk take a look at this info:

YES! You're absolutely correct. First it helps your uterus contract so that it returns to its normal size quicker and a big plus is that breastfeeding burns about 500 calories a day just to make the milk so it's like you're doing cardio without actually even moving.

crazy!!! think i might give breast feeding another thought and invest in a breast pump so can do bottles and not have to get my boobs out in public coz i really dont think id have the confidence to do that

I breastfed both my children but could only manage it for a short time, my daughter was slightly tounge tied and just wouldnt latch on and my son I developed mastits I know they say you should continue breastfeeding but I was so ill and in so much pain I gave up. I plan to try again on this baby cos I know how important it is just hoping I get it right this time. I used sma gold on my daughter but it didnt agree with my son and I used cow and gate comfort for him xx

I will be bottle feeding and am going to use cow and gate. My son had sma but I have heard the formula has changed and not for the better. Have heard good things about cow and gate plus it is cheaper!
