I have decided to give a bottle of formula at nighttime in the hope I might get a bit of sleep (currently up every 1.5-2 hours and I'm really suffering with how demanding it is and the lack of sleep)

My question is do i need to introduce it gradually or just swap it out straight away? And how do i know how much to give him? He is 6weeks and weighs 11lbs 12oz last Monday if taking emb from bottle he has anything up to 5oz would t just be the same quantity of formula he needs?.

Also is there a best brand of formula for a breastfed baby? I have heard aptimal is the closest to breast milk?

Thank you x

Sorry, im not sure about how to make the transition on that night feed, hopefully one of the other girls will know

Brand wise, its entirely up to you, a lot of people would recommend Aptimil though :)

i would try aptamil as yes its the closest to BM, i would make up 6oz and just let your baby have as much as he wants out of the bottle. Also i wouldnt worry about doing it gradually unless there is a problem getting your baby to take it, if there is mix it with EBM. Good luck x

I'm not too sure how much your LO generally eats in a sitting. What you might want to try doing is mixing 2 oz of formula with an ounce or two of EBM the first few times to help transition to formula for the night feeds. If your LO eats more than 4 oz, increase the amount of formula. Most 6 week old babies don't generally eat more than 4 oz in a sitting.

Amy when I had to swap Lily to formula from EBM I started with night feeds and she took to it straight away, I would recommend the aptamil but I'd say maybe buy the wee redimade cartons first so you don't waste a whole box of formula if the little man doesn't like it. The aptamil cartons have 7oz in them so just pour it all in and see what he takes as he may want more or less than usual due to the difference in thickness from EBM

Good luck with it anyway :)

Yes, Aptamil is a very light formula and works well with mix feeding in my experience.
