Boys name Bear?

When I first read it, I thought it was ridiculous. But I actually kinda like it. I also like similar names such as Wolf. Here in LA, a LOT of kids have a "different" sort of name. Lot's of girls called Bowan and Carver, and boys called Bleu and Arlo. My daughter has 4 friends called Scout. It's a change from the UK, where we are originally from. I think some of these kids would be picked on over there. However, I think times are changing and your son probably won't get picked on for being called Bear, considering how "unique" names are getting.

I'm sorry, I have to be honest here too. I really don't like it at all. Teddy Bear, Grizzly Bear I could go on all day. I know that children will pick on eachother no matter what, but this just gives them a free pass.

Yes, it is cute as a nickname, but please don't let your hubby name your child this.

Not as a first name, but a cute nickname. Bear Gryllis has a different first name, Bear was the nickname his sister gave him as a baby.

I'm sorry, I appreciate we are all different & like different names but to me, Bear isn't a 'name' - it's a nickname/pet name...not an 'official' name - can you imagine an adult called Bear, or him putting it on application forms etc?

I don't think it's fair to name a child that, I'd be amazed if he wasn't bullied and as a parent I'd never do something which could encourage name calling!

Have to agree with the majority and say that as a middle/nickname its ok, but I would not choose it as as a formal first name for my child. It conjures up images of big hairy strapping men for me (haha!) but it would sound very peculiar on a small little boy!
