So I always hear of people having normal brown spotting before AF. I have always just started af with heavy red flow and then had the brown spotting after red flow is done. I have always just assumed that this is normal old blood that didn't come out during af. I also usually have normal flow for a few days, nothing for a day, then af comes back a day later. After this day I have the brown spotting for about 4-5 days. Anyone else the same? I know I have endo and am watiting for my fs appt. later this week, but I have been wondering about this for a while, so I decided to ask.

Hi there

What you describe is as far as I have learned a symptom of endometriosis. In my medical textbook it is called tail end brown bleeding. However, it also depends on how many days your period is. Mine is 9 days so that is definately too long.
Best wishes,
Amber

Thanks Amber. I had 5 days of normal bleeding and now I am on the 3rd day of the tail end brown bleeding. Is your af 9 days with the tail end? If so, mine are usually that long too.

oo i didn't know that it was an endo symptom. i have endo and my period lasts about 9 days (4/5 days heavy then 4/5 days spotting)

This is interesting, I have suspected endo for myself but didn't know about this symptom! I always have a few days of very heavy bleeding, stop for a day, one or two more bleeding followed by a couple of days of brown spotting. I had no clue it wasn't normal!! I guess I should be talking to my doctor about it!

These posts are interesting. I also have expected endometriosis as well. I have end cycle brown bleeding myself and sometimes it lasts for more than 7 days. However, I don't have the pain of endo. I have appointment with my doctor 10/22. I am definetly going to mention this to her.

You don't have to have the pain to have endo. A lot of women don't even know they have endo until they are struggling with infertility.

I have CRAZY pain every month. Before and during af, sometimes during bd, sometimes during ov. I always thought it was somewhat normal to not be able to leave the house at least one day a month-or that I am just a wimp! The symptoms seem to be adding up to me. I did have a child when I was very young though...
I have also been reading up on progesterone deficiency. Anyone else having these symptoms also? Ugh I need a diagnoses!!

er.. so having any brown blood is a sign of endometriosis? My periods are usually about 5 days and the last one or two days of it I have mostly brown blood. Is it possible I have endometriosis then? :nope:

These are exactly my symptoms! (Except I don't have the brown blood before af) I used to think it was normal too. I never thought I was a wimp because I usually tolerate pain really well. I have been suspecting endo for a very long time, but none of my docs ever took me seriously. It took ltttc to finally get the answer that I knew was coming all along. Also, my mom had endo and fibroids and she had 3 children with it. Of course, that was 30 years ago!

I don't know that it specifically means you have endo, but it is a sign of endo. There are a lot of other signs too like severe pain during af, pain during bd, and a lot of others. Most women don't have any symptoms though and are diagnosed after suffering infertility.

Navywife, I will look forward to your update after the appointment! I have been to a fs last month but was very uncomfortable there-a combo of the actual doc, the facility itself, and general fear of docs. So I am going back to my GP to see if she will test me for endo and tubes, and if necessary send me to a different fs clinic. I am on day 7 of my cycle (close to yours I think?) and day 3 of brown spotting. Not sure if everyone else has the same but there is always a fair amount when I wipe, and it looks chunky alot of the time (sorry tmi). I always kind of thought that everyone had this. I also had a fair amount of brown spotting with my pregnancy (17 yrs ago) on several occasions.

Well, I've always had normal, regular periods and I ovulate every month.. so hopefully I'm ok

I will definitely keep you informed. I'm sorry you didn't feel comfortable with your fs. I am hoping mine goes well, but I am having my dh and my mom come just in case  My mom and I have a reallly close relationship, so this isn't the only appt. she has been to. She is also a retired registered nurse, so when I don't understand the medical lingo she can explain it to me. I get really nervous at the docs and don't always ask all the questions I need to. My mom can read my face and know when I have something to say. Most of the time she knows what I am going to say, so she says it for me! :haha:

You are close with me...I am on day 10 of my cycle. Your brown spotting sounds very similar to mine. I have never been pregnant, so I can't compare that with you though :)

Two days and hopefully I will get some answers!!!

I hope you hear some good news....then I can self-diagnose and assume I'm fine too :haha:
One interesting thing I read online was that if you are getting a lap done they can do the hsg at the same time while you are asleep. This is something I will be looking into, as an hsg is something I've been dreading

I always have 6 days of brown spotting before my period, 4 days of period (red blood) then 2 days of brown spotting again. I also have stage 2 endometriosis.

I didn't know that! I am definitely going to ask for that if they suggest me having a lap!

Hi navywife,
Did you have your appt? I didn't see anything posted, just wondering how it went!
:hugs:
