Saw this on the news: https://www.boston.com/business/new...at-recalled/YbVftoh2p1qYbzXkKfOJgP/story.html. Just wanted to share with you ladies, I know many mommas use them.

Thanks. Another lesson in not leaving your child unattended. I can't believe there is a recall because parents are using a product inappropriately :dohh:

Next thing you know, someone will sue McDonalds after they spill hot coffee on themselves. Oh, wait......

Thanks for sharing. I wouldn't dream of putting my lo in her bumbo on a raised surface, we just use it so she can sit on the floor with my toddler and I whilst we all play, I'm never too far away.

Xx

Well.. that's obvious.. And of course not sitting them on elevated surfaces. But I thought this would be useful in case anyone wants to install the free restraint belt....

I think it's a great idea to inform the public of the restraint that is available. One of the lawsuits that were files against bumbo, the nanny was using the seat on the floor while she was with the baby, and the baby still got hurt. Don't assume all people using it are being neglectful.

People are too sue-happy these days, imo, is all I'm saying ;)

Can't believe ppl are putting them on a table/ work surface then leaving them unattended! As soon as I saw the bumbo I thought, I wonder how long till you escape from that?! He got it at 4 months and was escaping by 5

Won't be returning mine as she won't come to no harm in it. I always supervise her and it's always on the floor! Putting them on units is just asking for trouble xx

I was like you thinking that it was a frivolous lawsuit. Exactly what the defense attorney wanted us to believe. It is not. If I recalled correctly, McDonalds was warned several times not to make their coffee that hot. Eventually, someone was going to get burnt. And it happened to a senior lady. If you googled the burns, you'd ask yourself how hot that coffee must've been to do that kind of damage. The full story makes you kinda think twice.

Back to the topic at hand...

I almost bought a Bumbo for my LO too. But then I read all the warnings people were saying about it. Even with you there, the thing was just too dangerous for a baby. Really glad I didn't.

https://www.bumbocanada.com/ this is the Canadian link to where you can fill out a form to receive the restraint belt kit. You don't need to return your bumbo, just install the restraint belt. I assume there is a similar site for the US and UK.

I always found the play tray good to keep the girls in. Tori still uses it now and pulls the tray off to tell us shes finished, but only because shes older now. Ive caught her crawling about with the bumbo on her bum

People are far too eager to blame the product. If you are using them on a table or elevated surface you lack common sense. It is possible for babies to fracture their skulls from falling over from a bumboless seated position if the floor is hard. But you can't sue gravity and so far no one is recalling floors.

I really don't understand why parents cannot supervise their baby whilst the baby is in this bumbo seat? And why the parent cannot use basic common sense and place the seat on a floor? Some people shouldn't be parents if they can't even do this? :nope:

It's not just elevated surfaces. The babies can arch their backs and pull their legs out of the seat. The momentum makes them fall over the back of the seat. Ive had it happen to me when I was sitting in the floor with them. I caught his head right as he started to hit the floor. It scared the crap out of me. I never used the bumbo without a tray after that. I'm glad they are finally addressing the issue.

I have to literally pry my LO's legs out of the seat because her thighs are so chunky...but she does like to slouch forward sometimes so I've been considering getting the tray just to keep her upright. I will probably do that sooner rather than later now.

bumbos got banned in nurseries wee i livelat yearthey were ordered to destroy them all ecause kids could tip them over and a kid got injured in the nursery whilst it was in use correctly
if you search bumbo escape on you tube you will see how kids can tip them over on the floor and get injured
we got shut of ours last year after our DD tipped it over on the lounge floor and bashed her head :-/

I can completely see how they tip tbh. One of Toris favourite to-do's was tried and throw her body weight back. She didn't tip but I imagine it's possible.

So I saw the picture of the straps how will they actually stop baby banging head when throwing themselves back? I don't know

If the restraint is snug around the baby's waist, then the baby shouldn't be able to arch her/his back, which is typically how they fall backwards and hit their head. If the baby is big enough that their feet is on the floor and they can push off of it when they are in the bumbo, which is the only other way I can imagine them tipping it over, then I would assume they are really too old to be in a bumbo.
