Hope this doesn't sound like a rant but I'm starting to get a bit confused/stressed about the whole bump thing.
I popped over for a stalk on the 2nd trimester board and there was a thread about bump size. Some people seem to have an actual bump at 12/13 weeks but the others say it is only bloat?
I'm 13 weeks today and even if I hold my tummy in I've still got a little round podge that sticks out. This whole 'oh it's your first baby you won't show until your probably 20 weeks' is really peeving me off and making me quite down...like everytime I look at it and get excited cause it's baby or at least caused by baby I then feel stupid and like it's not that :(
Anyone else feeling this weird kind of bump pressure?
Thanks x

Also I've read some people say that there bloaty bump actually disappears and that they have a 'normal' tummy before bump apparatus 'for real'. This thought makes me really sad and kind of anxious :(

I definitely notice bloat in myself in the afternoons, it's horrible! I guess it all depends on each person's size first, too. No one person is the same. You'll get your bump when you're meant to. :) Don't fret about it.

don't let other people get you down, everyone is different. if your belly bump is hard as a rock then its baby, if its not so much hard then its probably bloat, but either way its cause because of the baby! :) its certainly not unheard of to start showing at this stage. Just because this is your first child doesn't mean you wont show until 20 weeks, eventually you will have other members in the same boat as you!!!

totally agree with this lady.

we all show at different times, some first time mums dont show to late on i myself was 28wks first time.
My second was around 10wks so huge differance.

For me i find it very easy to tell between bump and bloat my bloat is more top side of my belly and it just generally feels uncomfortable around my stomach area.

however (going from my last baby anyways) i knew whem it was a bump as was starting to grow and get harder from bottom side of my belly button.
another good way i found was lying on my back if you have lower bump look going on deffo be there when you stand up x

Thank you so much for the replies, I know it shouldn't get me down but it does...maybe hormones too? Not sure. It's definitely hard all the way round the bottom and maybe a couple of cm above that. When I lay down my shape is all different like there is a little bump ridge thing where there wasn't before. Thank you for the advice I will try and chill!

I can't figure out if mine is bump or bloat :-/ this is my second and I remember early on with my first my work trousers were very uncomfortable. I had to nag to get some that fit me or beg to wear my own was a nightmare. But I didn't actually get a bump until about 20 weeks. I'm so confused as don't remember bloating this bad last time. Wish I'd taken pictures early on with my last now so I could compare lol

Sometimes it's bloat, sometimes it's uterus, and sometimes it's baby. I am bigger by the end of the night, but in the morning I am completely flat, so mine is bloat in the evening. When women start showing at 12/13 weeks it's because their uterus has popped over the pubic bone. Baby is still very small, so it's not a "baby bump", but the expanding uterus that you see. The baby isn't actually causing the bump until further along.

Women generally show earlier if it isn't their first pregnancy because their uterus may have remained larger than it was before, may not have sunk back down behind the pelvic bone yet, and the abdominal muscles might be weaker. Your first baby, your uterus has to stretch a lot, move up, and depending on your fitness status, your abdominals may hold your uterus closer in or further out than others.

My sister showed before her 12wk scan, and I was still dressing normally at 22wks. Both first babies, both petite. We just carried differently, the placentas were in different places and our babies laid at different angles.

I'm almost 10 weeks now and I have a bump-ette. I had a pretty flat stomach before but now I have a hard, sticky out belly around my belly button. It's tiny and invisible in clothes, but firm and definitely not bloat. On the evenings I do bloat my stomach is very different in shape. I think that's why people feel like their bump vanishes. The bloat is much bigger than your pre-pg figure, so the bump you're left with doesn't feel like anything. Though if you compared that to how you were before, you would appreciate it more! :)
