So, I know this has been done before but I can't find it.

This is my first baby and I admit to being largely clueless! What do you need to buy for the baby and in what quantity? For example, sleep suits etc.

We have been given a crib but no sheets or anything like that (how many do we need?) and we have our pram ( :) ) so I know I'm ok with that!

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you get a catalogue from Mothercare they have the 'essentials lists' for you to work from. There are a few bits that you don't need but majority on there is pretty useful.

I would say 'essentials', going by previous experience.

Clothes - 5 days worth of clothes so you have time to do a wash if needs be. I would say 7-10 vests and sleepsuits, a couple of hats and cardigans, scratch mits.

Somewhere to sleep - always get extra sheets (if you have a moses basket you can use pillow cases. Mothercare do a bundle which is good of 2 fitted sheets, 2 flat sheets and 2 blankets. Get a couple of extra bottom sheets and blankets in case of leakage or vomit.

Something to eat - depending on how you feed get a complete kit for this. We FF with Earl so I would say 6 bottles, teats, sterliser and milk for 1 week (in case you end up with an problems with a particular milk) Not sure about BFing.

Somewhere to wash - either a bath or a bath seat, a couple of wash cloths.

Everything else you can either take or leave. Personally a monitor would be high on my list, a bouncy chair so you can put them down safely, and dummies (unless you're BFing). Muslin cloths are also essential.

Good luck with the shopping. You really can go mad. I found ebay to be brilliant, and car boot sales.
