hey guys so i have a elective c-section booked for the 15th i am extreemly nervous and read up about it everyday! lol my midwife came round for my birth plan the other day and completly forgot to ask her what i wanted to! (pregnancy brain!) so if anyone could share thier experiences with me that would be fab good or bad i want to be able to expect all scenarios! also how long were you in for and how much could you do etc and was it hard to find a comfy feeding posisition as i am going to try breast feeding .. and last of all when you have had the surgery i no you have to go into a recovery room? but for how long and are you aloud visitors there as all the family are extreemly excited and havnt the heart to say they have to wait until i am on the ward after the recovery unless im not in recovery for long? sorry for length just very nervous and its getting ever closer! xx

hey hun!
i have had 2 c-sections and will be having my 3rd in september, i will try answer your questions best i can, i was in hospital for 3-4 days but it all depends how you and baby are doing, if all is good and straight forward its usually 3 days, you cant do much afterwards, they try encourage you to get up and "walk" as soon as poss, it is sore but you will have pain killers so take them as often as you can, i didnt breast feed so cant comment on positions for that but hopefully your midwive will be good in helping you with that, i was in recovery room for 2 hours with my first but was there for 4 hours with my second because she was cold and was taking a while to warm up so we was not aloud up to normal ward until she was ok, but it all depends on how you and baby are doing, usually a hour or so if all is ok, and at my hospital your not aloud anyone apart from your partner or whoever was in surgery with you in the recovery room, so they will have to wait outside the labour ward until you are taken up to normal ward, the recovery room aint very big so you can imagine if all the women had all there visitors in there, and you have just came out of major surgery so you will just want to lie there and recover with your new baby :) hope this helps xx

I've had 1 and scheduled for my 2nd this Nov - I was in recovery for about 2-3 hours until my blood pressure was under control - then we went to regular room and everyone was allowed to visit! I tried to breast feed but couldnt so no advice there - but FYI top half of body is fine so you can pretty much do anything - they do try and make you walk asap - i had a small issue afterward so i was in for 5 days (but i think that is the US standard anyway) -
they say you cant drive for 2 weeks afterward (although i did) - its not horrible! You'll be fine!!

i was in recovery for about an hour after my emcs, it was 1am and i was back on ward at 2am, had tea and toast about 6 hours after surgery, as i hadn't eaten all day prior to op. i didn't have any visitors because of the hour, they had to wait till visiting time on the ward which was 2pm and by then i was sitting up in the chair and nursing baby comfortably, i was showered by 5pm and had my cath out at midnight, i was home the next day. i wanted to get out so i refuse pain meds as i though this would make them think i was ok, but it was rough, when the nurse said i could go home regardless of the medication, i was much more comfortable.

get up and about as soon as you feel able, the staff will help and be supportive and you will feel much better, support your wound when peeing, laughing and moving about and you will be able to do much more. i had a poop in the hospital before i left and it was sooo painful, but it does no damage so don't be fretting, much better than being uncomfortable, and i was glad to get it over with in the care of nurses, just in case.

enjoy the experience and listen to your body, it's fustrating not being able to reach and lift your baby, but if your partner is there he can do it and it made my hubby more confident and all proud that he was the one doing the nappy changing, bathing and dressing for those 1st few hours.

support your scar when you sneeze or cough to, ouch its sore! same with laughing, nothing worse than trying to stop laughing it just makes it worse lol! i got constipated after my ops and it took 5 days for me to finally "go" it felt like my scar was gonna pop open when i strained, (it wont)
