Well ive got my c-section tomorrow morning and im scared/excited/nervous!

Really dont know what to expect so any advice is more than welcome!

Good luck, I had a section with DS, it wasnt too bad worst part is being in recovery after baby is born you just wish your life away until they take you round to your room! Take it easy after as you wont be very mobile for a while... dont be too proud and accept help from people, I didnt and I burst my stitches changing the bedding about 3 days after getting out from hospital! xx

No advice either hun, just wishing u good luck!! x

Get up and about soon as you can, and take big knickers x

Oh and keep on top of that pain relief .. you will need it!

I worked on a maternity unit and I would say the best advice I could give is to use the help that there is available on the ward, don't try and get up too fast the first time as your blood pressure will be low and make sure you eat and drink plenty afterwards to help your blood sugars and your bowels.

Good luck! Looking forward to hearing about your experience :hugs: xxx

relax and enjoy it.
the more you relax the easier it is.
also afterwards i will recommend trying to get up and about within at least 12 hours afterwards, even if its just stand up and walk around the bed. the sooner your up the easier it is to do things for yourself and you heal quicker and with more ease.
if your in pain dont be afraid to ask for morphine, i loved this stuff, literally felt like i could do anything afterwards and couldnt feel anything, not pain at all not even a little niggle.
take a CD of your fav music with you, with elective c-sections sometimes they allow you to have music playing just as long as it doesnt intafere with the surgeon.
if you want your birthing partner to be the one to tell you the sex request this before you go in, any other added extras tell the midwife who takes you down to surgery so she can inform the people in the room.
the spinal is a very weird sensation, you sort of tingle before going numb and they run a cloth down your side to make sure you are numb.
it will feel like someone is doing the dishes in your stomach! you will feel pushing and pulling but no pain. sometimes this can make you sick, they do give you anti sickness stuff before hand but sometimes this does nothing, it also tastes like you are drinking liquid sugar, very sweet yuk.
but all i can realyl say is just relax, breathe and enjoy it. an elective section is definately a nice experience as it is more laid back that an unplanned one and alot calmer.
good luck and hope all goes well. xxx

My top tip is to take some bendy straws with you. Drinking from a cup is really difficult until the spinal wears off (about 12-18h) and sitting up is really painful for quite a while. This will help you keep hydrated.

You will be amazed how quickly they get the baby out - about 10 mins (or less). Most of the operation is putting you back together. Ask beforehand if you want skin to skin contact - it was a couple of hours before I could hold my DS, that felt like forever.

I'm having one on Friday too, today I was told that if you want skin to skin contact then you must insisit on it, if for some reason you can't have it then you can ask for your partner to have it instead. Also the midwife said, shave your front bit because it makes you feel like a monkey when the surgeon says "she needs shaving now" lol

No advice but huuuuuge hug :hugs: and you will have your little baby with you soon!! Whoop whoop!!xxx

Ditto to the poster who advised on shaving yourself. If you don't do it - they will.

I had a spinal for my C-section so I was "awake". But by awake I was really incoherent and in and out of consciousness. I vaguely remember glimpsing my son after he was pulled out. I don't remember much up to that point. I passed out shortly before they started sewing me up.

I do recall freaking out because I couldn't swallow. The spinal sort of gradually started numbing me higher and higher. Eventually I couldn't feel my arms/hands and then it got to my chest and then my neck. I couldn't swallow. My breathing wasn't impeded at all and I could talk. But it freaked me out that I couldn't swallow the saliva in my mouth. They kept telling me to calm down and eventually put a suction deal in my mouth (similar to a dentist's tool).

Also, I was suprised to find that I had a catheter in when I woke up. It makes perfect sense - duh, but it's just something I didn't think of. They had put it in sometime after giving me my spinal and I hadn't even realized it.

I wasn't allowed to eat solid foods after the C-section. I was told no solid foods until I passed gas. I wasn't sure I heard them correctly at first. Then I was so hungry for real food that I just wanted to lie and say that I'd farted and to give me a sandwich. But I stuck with my broth and jello for a day or two (probably helped lose the pregnancy pounds anyways). Finally I passed the littlest fart, I could barely tell that I'd passed gas. But I figured that's it and ordered my food. I had the worst stomach cramps shortly after! And I'd gone easy with oatmeal and crackers - or something. It was like major constipation/bloating cramps. When they tell you to wait until you pass gas they mean it. Wait until you rip one.

No advice, but GOOD LUCK!!!! and Congrats!!!! :hugs:

Good luck - had emergency so will be different. The anti sickness drink is rank and if it doent work say as they can give you injections which helped. I experienced same as everyone else the only thing extra which i had never heard of but was told is common is extreme shaking in arms upper torso and face. it was so bad i couldnt concentrate on my baby - my partner was crying saying look isnt he amazing and all i could think of was ' my teeth are going to break from the chattering.lol

Like someone else said the putting you back together takes up most of the op.

Good luck - you will have your baby so soon x
