Hiya

Okay so i am having a c section on 19th oct with out first baby. For a long time i havent been anxious about the procedure as such but moreso about the catheter, epidural and hiw i will deal with the pain after. For the last few days i have been anxious also about the cannula. I have had one once before when i was out to sleep for a lletz procedure. I remember for this i lay in the side room and remember it hurt but was quite fast and not THAT painful. This time I will be sitting in a chair when they do it and for some reason I am really worried about having the cannula put in and imagine me crying like a baby! Lol. I do tend to underestimate myself tbh.

Anyone else feel worried but it turned out ok?

Xx

Is the cannula the thing they put into the back of your hand? I had that for my epidural and honestly, it was fine hun. But I was in labour at that point so the contactions were worse than it going in! I didn't want a c-section but had to have one after a really long labour. I was so scared of having the catheter put in and taken out and it was absolutely fine - barely felt a thing. And I am a total wimp!!!!

I hope it all goes well for you - by the time I was full-term, I was so excited for my baby to come, and I'm sure you will be, that you hopefully will just be so excited about the birth that it will go without a hitch.

Good luck. xx

I was cathetarised AFTER my epidural so that was a big help - didn't feel a thing. TBH, I had a fantastic epidural, was numb as a block of wood from my armpits to my ankles, so for me the most painful part of the whole procedure was the scrape they did when I first came to hosp - now that's a good thing!!
The worst bit is afterwards, the first 24 hours for me. I was high as a kite but couldn't sleep, and was laid propped up next to my baby who I couldn't pick up even tho she was crying, I hadn't been handed the control for the bed so had to sleep sat upright and couldn't buzz for help, and everybody kept 'helpfully' clearing the top of my bedside table off so I couldn't reach water, tissues, phone, magazienes or anything! Make sure you tell people not to tidy your stuff up...

I have had 2 emergency sections and both times were absolutely fine. Didn't feel epidural or catheter and the canula took a bit of getting in but my veins are rubbish! You'll be fine and if you need pain relief always ask!

Thanks ladies. I am askingfor the catheter after i have been numbed so wont feel anything. Lol. Dreading when wears off though and will be able feel it and when they take out. I hope the.cannula goes ok, veins in my hand look fab! lol. Xx

I had an emergency c-section after a failed induction and honestly, after being poked, prodded, having numerous internals and synto contractions all the surgery preparations were a breeze. And I'm another wimp :haha: I was dreading having the catheter removed but it didn't hurt at all. There's plenty of pain relief for after as you need it hun and don't be afraid to ask for it x

Thanks. Im deffo gna ask for pain relief. With the after paun I imagine it being unbearable.and hitting hard. But a lot of people I have spoken to say it is a sore feeling which comes on slowly and isnt unbearabke just uncomfortable. Been told after you get up for the first time it gets easier. Lol. Xx

Hi love I just had my 4th section the section part itself was fine I'n my case I had other complications making my surgery very difficult

bUT the pain after was same as other sections I have had and yes it is painful but ur be suprise how well your body deals with the pain when u have baby I'n ur arms

As for the cathatrrr I too had mine I'n after epi but had to have anotyer one put in after surgry and was not numb didnt feel a tging tho its pritty painless had it out 2 days later ( usually sooner but again I had complications ) it's not painful at all so please don't worry
it feels just the same a if u were to take a tampon out .

Due o my complication and severly bruised bladder I had cath for 10 days went home with it so I u have any questiona feel free to pm me x x

The pain afterwards is uncomfortable but is totally bearable, in my case I think a lot of it was in my head as I was terrified that if I stood up straight or coughed too hard I would burst open but as soon as I accepted I wasn't going to split open it was a bit easier. I also got the catheter after I'd had my spinal so I didn't feel a thing but I don't know if they gave me it afterwards because it was an EMCS and it was painless being taken out.
P.s. I am a huge wimp, hate needles, never had an operation in my life, I was shaking like a leaf from the moment I knew I was getting prepped to the moment they did the spinal but honestly the procedure was fine and I wouldn't be scared getting another one. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for that hun, has helped settle my mind a lot! Your LO is adorable!!! xx

Thanks Hun :) just don't let your mind run away with itself (hard I know), nothing is ever as bad as you imagine, hope it all goes well and I see you in the baby club section with pics soon after :)

i had an emcc and im the biggest wimp ever n i coped, i had the cathetor put in before i had my spinal but it didnt hurt, maybe a little uncomfble but nothing major, as for the canular i had 2 in each hand as i was so poorly you for get they are there after a while, what i found hard was after having the section the pain was ok but when i coughed i had to hold a pillow against my stomache to stop it hurting so much x

For me, the IV sucked but thats only cuz I had a crumby nurse who did it wrong the first time and the second another nurse did it, it wasnt that bad at all. The catheter was painless in and out..

You'll be fine hun.. its all worth it having your baby. :)

The IV was the worst bit for me, but if you have nice veins then it wont be a problem..i have absolutely no veins and they tried absolutely everywhere on my arms and hands and in the end went in my...wait for it....NECK!!!!!! but i asked them to numb me before hand so they gave me little jabs of local and that helped a bit. The spinal block was a bit traumatic going in as they had to have a few goes to get the right spot, but once it was in it was absolutle bliss, could not feel a thing, was the wierdest sensation ever, and thats when they interted the cathater....that was fine, no probs, no feeling and when they removed it the next day i didn't feel it either....over in a flash....
the pain is as expected, but its not horrendous like you would think, its copeable, and you just crack on with it. I felt like an asbolute trooper when i came out of the otherside, i had gone through 5 days of failed induction waters broke, drip in my neck the lot....so when i came out the section i just felt triumphant, and proud of what i had endured for my little man (well big actually at 9.14). It will be fine love, its a bit scary but only coz you aint had one before, once they deliver the baby the rest goes by in a bit of a blur....mabey they dose you up with some drugs i dont know, i felt out of it when i was in recovery but very happy.xxxx

Thanks hun! Iv in yout neck sounds terrible! I have good bright veins in my hands, its my arms which qre rubbish! Lol. I have so longed for a baby of my own as never thought i would have one so hoping i am overcome with the happiness so nothing else matters! Xx

I have Tokophobia (fear of childbirth) which I have had since my teens. I have seen a specialist midwife as well as my own, my GP, consultant and a psychotherapist and all agreed a c section was the best option for me due to the phobia.

xx
