Hey ladies I possibly have PCOS and im wondering about symptom other women have had. My DH and i have been TTC for 11 months and during that i have only had 3 periods. Any one else have periods like that???

there is a PCOS group in the Long Term and Assisted Conception Forum where you will find all sorts of ladies with the same sorts of issues =)

I do KKA. I stopped taking my BC about 1.5 years ago and have only gotten 6 periods since then. My OB/GYN said I probably have PCOS and wanted me to go back on the pill. I told him I want to figure out why I am so irregular. My MD tried me on glucophage/metformin which I could not take. I was running to the bathroom everytime I ate, and nauseous 24/7. I took it for about 2 months, symptoms are supposed to decrease after a couple weeks. I have tried taking it atleast 2 different times for a few weeks. I work with a couple girls, one of whom lost weight and got PG within just a couple months of taking it.
Symptoms I have are weight gain and irregular heavy periods. I am sure if I read through the symptoms I would have more! I know excess body hair is another one, I am lucky to not have that one!

Thanks Born2beamommy about the tip, I will check out that forum!

The most common symptoms are weight probs, excess hair, spots and irregular/absent periods.

There's different types of PCOS, but those with weight probs can get their periods back if they lose 10% of their weight (Atkins style PCOS diet works best).

I'm one of those with PCO but no weight, hair or spots, hormone probs. Only irregular periods (9 periods/year).

I have pcos, I have insulin resistance, extra hair growth, high testosterone and weight probs and I had absent periods for almost 3 years, then very irregular periods, and I was diagnosed after suffering immense pain.

I tried metformin, and I was soo sick I just couldnt handle it. My consultant and endocrinologist wanted me to maintain on the pill to regulate my cycles, but I never had withdrawal bleeds, and I personally found I was less in pain off the pill than on it. I tried every diet known to man to loose the weight. Low GI works well for pcos as low GI foods break down slowly in the body, which helps the body, if you eat high GI foods with pcos then the food is quickly broken down into sugars. I also calorie counted. I lost just over a stone in weight and my periods began to return, after losing nearly 2 stone i was having 28/29 day cycles and now Ive lost 2.5 stone and have a BFP and prior to that was regular as clockwork, and pain free :) Hair growth is still a bit there but we cant have it all :)

FX'd for you hun xxxxxxxxxxx

hey, chick

i was diagnosed with pcos this week! I have been off BCP for 15months and have had irregular periods thru out that time! ranging from 27-and currently on CD50! but i have normally had bleed every 6-8wks!
i am slightly overweight but not majorly, no acne/endo/excess hair etc! think it affects every 1 differently! i've recently lost 12lbs and on a internal scan this wk there was a big follicle there and the doc said it suggests i was about to ovulate! so i think losing weight helped me out a bit! had a stong pos opk yest so looks like im ov'ing for the first time in 15months!!! FX'd!! my gynae has just started me off with metformin! which starts on 500mg going up to 1500mg by wk 3! so far im having terrible cramps and nausea!
Hope ur ok hun, and i would look at the pcos club thread xxx

I've had PCOS for some years but just found out I had it last year after 5 years of testing and like many many (lots) of years without getting a period. I've had steady periods without birth control since August of last year .. My cycles are very somewhat regular now. The symptoms I had was the hormones, high blood pressure, weight gain - and lost - hair thinning and shedding alot - and prob. some more that I can not remember. I stopped taking birth control because I wanted to take control of my body and start having a family - I just knew I could get a period without taking them. I took them for some months (well when I could remember) to help get my periods going - and i stopped and they started coming back on their own.

hi, most likly i have pcos is what my RE said after testing me for IR is that if i have IR i have pcos. well i do fit all the problems for it. i have skin tags that i wonderd y,i have belly weight(which pilled on very fast) periods never started on there own after comming of bc ( i had maybe 3 on my own within a yr and half.)even progestone pills didnt work to get me to start also i noticed my stomache became a little more hairy. she put me on metformin and it does take awhile to get used to, im still trying to get used to it and have been on it for awhile, but thats y ure supposed to lose weight on it

hi there.

i got diagnosed 3 years ago. went to docs as i hadn't had a period in 5 months they just vanished. must have had at least 7 pregnancy tests done before they took me serriously. as the years have gone by since i was diagnosed i have piled on weight (5 stone!! :growlmad:), my hairs on arms etc seem a bit darker and although my periods have come back they are now fortnightly and i don't think i am Oing. think weight loss at the mo is best option for me. but as i have seen on here A LOT of women happily have kids or are pregnant so it gives you that hope that your time will come. i hope you all the best and lots of baby dust being sent your way :dust:
