One of my twins has taken to sucking his hand all of a sudden. Its not that he is hungry or that he wants his dummy. Thing is he is just going to turn 3 months so its really early. The idea had not even occurred to me but a friend said this and even said she could see a white line where the front teeth should come up (not sure if this is true not had a chance to look yet). I had a peek on the internet and it did say that teething could happen in some cases as early as 3 months. I hope I'm not going to become one of those mums who thinks her children are super advanced  Anyway, if its not early teething any idea why he could be doing this?

Yeah they can start teething pretty early, doesn't necessarily mean a tooth will come out anytime soon (but of course it can do too, they're all different!) but I remember DS1 started the signs at 8-12 weeks and he got his first tooth at 5 months, I think they move around under the gums or something?

Some babies do start teething early, but putting hands in their mouth/chewing on their fingers is also a really normal behaviour for that age. I thought my LO was teething around 3/4 months but she wasn't, she didn't actually start teething until around 8 months.

If you can see a white line then it might very well be teething, though.

My ds started showing signs of teething at like 8 weeks, no teeth yet but it's getting worse every day! We've soaked through a few bibs and t shirts today. He's only 14 weeks

Chewing fists and hands is.common.at that age. My eldest started teething and had his first tooth at four months and he.was frantic with it. I'd say it's unlikely and more likely developmental but who knows

Both mine showed signs of teething at 3 month, ds didn't get a single one until 8 months though and dd is nearly 5 month and still yet to get a tooth so even though it could happen don't expect to see one any time soon x

Chewing fists and drooling are normal developmental signs at that age. The HV/nurse I have looks for it as a sory of milestone.

While it's a normal developmental thing, it could well be teething if your friend did see a line. Jenson started this mid December and got his first 2 bottom teeth early January at just over 3 months. At 14 months he has all but the very back 4 teeth, and has done since a week before his first birthday. He seemed to be constantly teething though!

I think my DD has been teething, there is an obvious white line the lower gum and she has times where she screams and only the thing that settles her is the teething gel. The HV said it could take months before it comes through :(

Ds started at 7weeks, and got two teeth at four and a half months. He was always sucking his hands, chewing on soother/bottle he's like a T. Rex now. Can you feel the lumps of the teeth??
He's the youngest baby in my family to get teeth none of us had teeth at our first birthdays or hair!!

Aw thank you everyone, being a FTM I often feel so clueless. I'll update when I find out ! XXX

DD started mega chewing and mouthing at 3 months. 9 months in she is as toothless as an octagenarian.

My LO is 18 weeks and is teething very clear white lines on her gum poor little pickle.

Screaming bloody murder and has gone from having 7oz a feed to pushing the bottle away at 3oz.

I've never heard screaming like it!!!!

Annabel is 14 weeks and has a tooth coming through top right, can just see a tiny white dot, which is pretty sharp. Poor baby x

My nephew cut his first 2 teeth at 12 weeks, so it is very possible, esp if there is a white line.

I though my lo was teething from about 3 months but she didn't cut a tooth until she was over a year, so looking back I doubt she was!!
