Hiya. Im 38+3 and i think it varies from woman to woman after reading lots of previous posts.
Don't worry about baby being/not being engaged and the possible wait cuz a lot of women go in to labour when baby isnt fully engaged! ( my mw told me this). She said the average engagement is usually 2/5 or 3/5 before women go in to labour and then baby moves further down after this. This made me feel much better cuz i kept pinning my hopes on baby moving down until i was at the waddling stage , when now i realise its not as important as i 1st thought :) xxx

i was wondering this too!
i'm engaged, so i've been told! i can feel alot more discomfort but can still walk about fine

xxx

This made me giggle....

abigail was FULLY engaged at just 36 weeks, midwife couldnt palpate ANY head at all....and yes, I could cross my legs :haha:

Although it really wasnt the most comfortable position!!

I'm fully engaged now and I just tried crossing my legs..and I couldn't do it! So I guess it's true for some.

Sounds like your baby's head is engaging since you've been having those sharp pains, I was 2/5 engaged at your stage xx

Wow :) haha whem did u go into labour then?36wks?x

For me when he was engaged it was possible for me to close my legs but very uncomfortable. The way you can tell is if you can still sit comfortablely with your legs crossed your baby is not engaged. I used to sit with my legs open cause it was way more comfortable.

I have had this but it comes and goes depending on if i have had a busy day or not!! x

I am 3/5 engaged and don't feel much different except I have to get up to pee every hour at night! I can still cross my legs (but won't coz I don't want to encourage him to disengage hehe) x

I am 3/5th engaged and I can cross my legs, but it is a bit of a struggle & not comfortable!! x

I don't think this is true for everyone- my baby's engaged and I can cross my legs comfortably, only reason I don't is coz my bump makes it uncomfortable to cross my legs. Although I'm only 3/5 duno if it makes a diff if you're fully engaged. I've been told he may not engage anymore until labour anyway but he shouldn't 'pop out' now (he disengaged at 36 wks).

I'm 3/5 and can still cross, i have never heard of this either. My oh will have another thing to laugh at me about!

my baby engaged a couple of weeks back and hes now almost 3/5s engaged ... i cant close my legs without feeling like im squishing his head... plus when im stood up its the same!... you also get that awful shock feeling that shoots through your cervix when he nuzzles x
