Yesterday at my hospital class the physio warned to check our car insurance to see if we are covered in pregnancy. I can't find anything online from my insurer Admiral to suggest I am not covered. Has anyone rang their insurer? Maybe we could start a list of which insurers/policies are affected?

HEY HONEY!! how are you??

Thats interesting!! Ive never heard of that - have you called you insurance company to clarify??xx

I'm aware of it being an issue with travel insurance, but not car insurance?

Babydreams I will pm you :)

I'm going to ring them when I get home as they have an 0871 number.

I've tried to have a google around, theres lots of baby forums asking the same thing but nothing to substantiate the claim - so far it's just rumours.

i've never seen anything in my policy about it and never heard of it being an issue before. pretty sure it's not true x

Why does the physio think this? Where did she get her info?

I had a car accident last week and ended up spending a night in hospital due to it kicking off contractions. I told my insurer (Elephant) and they never mentioned anything about me not being covered and even suggested I took out a legal claim.

Really stupid question coming up but what would not be insured about you? Is it incase you go into labour whilst driving or something? I renewed mine in May and didn't get the legal bit :dohh: but remembered about a week later and told them that I was pregnant and they didn't mention anything either.

I know that once you have had the baby you have to declare you have children. Your insurance tends to be more when you have kids as they are seen as a "distraction" in the car so you are more likely (according to the insurers) to have an accident than if you didn't have children in the car. Not heard of anything relating to being pregnant though x

Really?

God, I've never heard of this. And I drive almost daily, and have a 12yr old. I've never been asked this, nor has my OH when he's put me on his cars.

I think the idea is when you are pregnant you may get too big to be in the best driving position, unable to turn around or have pains that put you off?
The physio just said it was something that had been brought to her attention. Maybe it is just a rumour?

I know that if you have had a c-sect you may not be covered. but nothing about pregnancy.

What? Another thing I know nothing about, surely I havent been driving for 12 yrs uninsured?

I thought the point of car insurance was to financially cover yourself in the case that your vehicle is damaged, or you damage another party? How would this be affected by a pregnancy? It's not like you are more likely to hit someone else or be hit when you are pregnant....

Just sounds like a rumor to me.

I rang Admiral and the guy just said I'm insured til my policy needs renewing. I'm not sure he really understood my question... Oh well
