Can any of you lovely ladies recommend a car seat for 6 months + ??

if u check ebay hun theres lots of ones from birth to 4 years! we just got a second stage one! its a nania driver.

Try looking on carseat.se they have a lot of extended rear facing ones and they can tell you which will work best in your car :)

I would like to hear the response to ur question too hun.

I need to get Eva a bigger one soon.

Are the ones from 6 months plus all forward facing as I put Eva in the front in her current one as it rear facing and I can turn the air bag off.

Do the forward facing ones have to go in the back seat?

is the next stage not usually 9 months+?? i know its 9 months for front-facing!

Hiya I've found a couple on mothercare website that are combination seats so they start as rear facing till baby is around 10-13 kgs then it can turn into a forward facing one it was a Britax I think it was called was £140 reduced to £100 & last till they're around 4..... I think this is what I may go with!

I'm not sure about the last question, I'm pretty sure they do if they can ie you don't have a 2 seat car but hopefully someone else will give you a better answer on that!

x

Kirstlm - yes FF seats have to go in the back, I would try avoid having LO in a FF seat for as long as possile though,

PrincessJenna - Britax first class plus is a great seat, I had it and she went in at 6months, It RF till almost 2 (weight dependant) so its a huge plus, Its easy to fit, high up so they can see out all the windows, and she always look really comfy in it!

Remember to check it fits in your car though, local pram shops can help!

Brilliant thanks the Britax first class was what I was looking at x

NuKe it depends on the height and weight of the child but roughly it is 9months, I changed at 6 because she was almost over the top (head height) as shes so long, and also because i sold my first stage one and the one i got was from Birth aswell as extended RF so it was fine to just change her then,

Generally the FF seats have a minimum weight limit and its just 'roughly' around 9months that the babies reach that,

To go FF it's 9kg and at least 9 months I believe.

Tom is still not 9kg despite being 10 1/2 months. We got the concord ulitmax which is from birth like the britax first class. Its a similar price but fitted much better into our car as its slimmer and less upright. I'm hoping he can stay RF in it up to at least 18 months hopefully more as I don't think he'll be 13 kg for ages.

Hannah has the concorde ultimax, its a wonderful seat and it fits very securely in the car. It is worth the extra money in my opinion. It will do RF until 18months ish, then you can turn it round to FF. It has a ratchet system which allows you to really crank it down into the seat and it feels so much more secure than the Britax car seats.

Just a note carrying on from the Rear-Facing suggestions...keep RF for as long as possible. Its safer for your baby

Well worth watching. My 13 month old LO is still in her infant rear facing car seat, purely for this reason. As long as their head doesnt go above the seat, or exceed the weight limit.

Which do extensive tests on car seats.

Maxi-Cosi Priorifix (Isofix) performed best in terms on safety
Kiddy Infinitypro (seatbelt installation) performed best in terms of safety

Compulsory standard versus rigorous Which? testing for child car seats
All seats sold in the UK must meet the test requirements of the compulsory standard ECE R44/04.

This simulates a low-speed crash test at the front of the vehicle, equivalent to around 30mph, without a child sustaining serious injury. But beware – the test is done on a test bench and there's no compulsory side-impact test, or ease of use assessment for child car seats.

Which? uses far more stringent standards than this. Our crash tests are derived from Euro NCAP – which carries out crash testing on behalf of European consumers and shows how well cars protect occupants in severe accidents. Our testing does a similar thing for child seats and more accurately reflects what happens in real crashes than the legal minimum test.

Which? car seat testing - crash tests
Our front-crash test uses loads derived from a 40mph crash, and we also carry out a side-impact crash test.

We propel a Vauxhall Astra car body down a track, stopping it sharply and filming the effects on the dummy in the seat. Our dummies are wired up to record the head, neck, chest and pelvic loads, accurately indicating what chances a real child would have in similar circumstances.

 it's the first time ive watched a video like that, even though it was animated it gave me chills

Thanks for the info jane99....

I didnt realize the 'standard test' which needs to be met by UK seats are at such low speeds?! Its terrible. People think they are buying a 'safe' carseat as it meets the UK safety requirements...but are never told these 'standards' are incredibly feeble?!

I myself, have gone with an extended RF seat from Sweden. The Britax Multi-Tech, it is a great carseat. It has extra head side-impact protection, and the shell grows with your child. It will last her from now (9months) until the age of 7. And she can RF until 4...im very happy i did some research into it...

xbabybumpx -it frightens the life out of me too...I just wish more parents realized. Could save their baby's spine :nope:

The real crash tests are even more chilling...

worth a watch for 3 minutes...but crash tests are around 1min30

I can't remember what the seat was called...but another member posted the one they have that goes to age 6 and is extended rear-facing as well as FF too.

The minimum weight is 9kg for forward facing. Liam is just over 5 months and nearly 10kg & in a forward facing seat because his mamas & papas rear facing one is very restricting & he screams going in it. We have a Nania one from Argos atm & it does the job until we can afford a better one. My understanding is that they can go anywhere in the car but no airbags if it's rear facing.
