I've just started getting pregnancy related carpal tunnel syndrome in the last few weeks and it's really driving me crazy.

Anyone else have this and know of any good exercises to help? I had a look on google but wanted to know if anyone on here had any they'd tried that actually helped.

It's mainly bad at night when I'm trying to sleep, I wake up upwards of 10 times a night with numb, tingling hands in great pain that radiates up to my elbow

Last night wasn't so bad and I only woke up 3 times, but to relieve it I have to sit up and let my arms hang down, then lay on my back with my hands resting on my belly for about 20 minutes. It just takes so long to go back to sleep then it wakes me up again less than an hour later.

During the day it's fine, I only get numbness or tingling if I do something like hang out loads of washing.

Any helpful hints?:coffee:

mine started when i was 35 weeks...its soo annoying as its jus at night aswell...i havent found anything that helps apart from moving arm/hand into a different position...sorry i cant b more helpful... xx

Ive had it for a couple of months now. I have exercises that i do that my hospital gave to em and wear a splint at night, this has helped but it has still progressively gotten worse

I have non-pregnancy CP and I wear splints at night when it's really bothering me.

yes, I mentioned it to my physio who I go to for SPD and she gave me splints to wear at night which have helped hugely. I put them on halfway through the night otherwise my wrists are stiff as a board the next morning, and they have almost got rid of my symptoms completely!

I got the splints too but i didnt like it. Best advise physio gave me was not to curl my hand up in bed. Thats what the splint is meant to do. Its actually got better.

I have this too (along with recently diagnosed SPD:dohh:) and like the other girls have said best thing is not to curl your hands up during the night - easier said than done I know especially as I naturally do this when sleeping and have my hand between two pillows as well which makes things worse!

I don't use the splints but use a tubi-grip type bandage on my wrists when it's really painful or I need extra support (like typing on the laptop!) and wearing it sometimes at night brought up over my hand can help to keep my hand flat but doing that can also add to the numbness!!

My midwife recommended cutting a bath sponge into half and putting my hands in a bowl of warm water and squeezing the sponges for a few minutes underwater before bed, when I wake up and off and on when I need it during the day which does seem to ease it a little.

Oh fantastic advice, thanks so much everyone. I'm not pleased that you are all getting it, but glad I am not the only one.

I started getting numb fingers during the day at around 20 weeks but this nighttime pain is just...grrrr!

I'll try some wrist support type things and see how that goes, and the squeezing the sponge sounds good too.

I've gotten this the last 2-3 weeks. I've been trying to drink more water and eat less salt (read that should help somewhere) and try to keep my hands flat at night. Mine are soooo incredibly sore in the mornings. I also "exercise" them in cold water in the morning which helps :)

I'd been getting it lots during the night... well I just thought it was pins and needles as i'd laid on my hands funny
I was just putting up with it!!! lol

Sorry I can't offer any suggestions but least I have a explanation for myself

yes, it does! i've had it for a while now - it is worse at night, but also a problem in the day as i get numbness and pain when i do pretty much anything with my hands. eating is the worst - i can only hold cutlery for a really short time before i have to stop to dangle my hands by my sides and wiggle my fingers until the feeling comes back! i also got splints from the physiotherapist and they have helped loads. i mostly wear them at night, and really noticed the difference when i forgot to put them back on after my 4am trip to the loo one night - i was in terrible pain when i woke up and it carried on the rest of the day. i do wear them in the day if it's particularly bohering me, or if i'm just sitting watching tv and they're not going to interfere with doing anything. just hope it goes away quickly after the baby arrives.

I've just started getting this! Very annoying and stops me sleeping.

I've had this for a while - I just wriggle my fingers and make a fist and release to try and get rid of it.

Mine plays up big time when im using the computer.

Not good for mine and BnB's relationship!!!
