hello ladies im 38+4 and im DONE with being pregnant iv done a lot of reading and no about the diahorea and sickness that can come with using castor oil but i was wandering if taking just a tiiiiny bit would be ok really.. some ladies swear by it and i really am tempted..

PLEASE DONT MOAN, NAG OR WHINE AT ME im just trying to help myself along a bit :) many thanks to all who respond :D xxx

Ok im not a nagger or a moaner and hate it when people do it lol, have a glass of water 10 to 15 mins before you take it then take 2 tablespoons and then 2 hours later take another 2 tablespoons, make sure you are hydrated. it is dehydration that can harn the baby and castor oil hasnt been proven to make babies open bowels inside in fact babies that have pooed inside have more than likely done so because they are overdue (from a friend who is a midwife!)

just dont forget the importance of guzzling that water!!!! good luck and post back if you have any luck

wow that was a great reply was expecting to get bombarded with insults in all honesty.. do you know where i can get some? xx

I'm also really tempted to try it but really don't want to be on the toilet all day because of it and have nothing happen, can't imagine it's nice being in labour and having diarroeah at the same time doing all that pushing lol, although my nan said it didn't give her diarroeah when the midwife gave it to her back when she had my dad, just made her go to the toilet normally. Please let me know how you get on with it via pm cos I'm also sick of being pregnant lol, thanks very much xx oh yeah my nan said something about layering the oil with orange juice to take away some of the taste but i don't know where you can get it sorry hun

If u try it make sure u give an update........would like to know if it really works

thanks ladies for the encouragement i will do aparently they wont sell to pregnant women so sendin the oh out tomoz to get some hahaha... im excited i have read that it is the dehydration (what do you expect when u get the runs??) that is dangerous so pleeeas ladies if you do try it make sure u have plenty of looroll/ wipes, reading material and LOTS and LOTS of water to drink :D xx

I have no advice on this... but have you smelt it? :p Castor Oil is the most vile stuff ever haha. But hey, if it helps it would be worth it right! Good luck :D

XxX

hahah na never seen it but fingers crossd its worth it :D iv heard u can get a smell and tasteless 1 so heyy maybe it wont be that bad xx

I personally wouldn't risk it, i wouldn't want to spend my last few days being pregnant stuck on the toilet. I think if they won't sell it to pregnant women, there must be a good reason for that.
I think you sound all set on taking it so good luck and just try not to take too much x

I have had enough of being pregnant now but would not take this, I just think it's been 9 months so what's another few days/weeks

But good luck if you go for it x

Hi I'm getting desperate too! I'm overdue but I honestly think there is a supply issue with castor oil at the minute has been for a while and it makes it very difficult if not impossible to get! If anyone does find it let me know!
I was wondering if califig or something similar would be the same cause it's just the pooping it causes stimulating the uterus isn't it?

Yeah apparently the contractions in your bowels cause your uterus to contract too xx

i thought they used to use castor oil to abort in the olden days?

Noo castor oil was used to bring on labour! My MIL used it with all 3 of hers, it worked for her n she had a lovely clear out and wen straight into labour, was no sittin on the loo for hours/days just the once or twice n it worked! I tried it with 'califig' very similar to castor oil but my OH had to go in n buy it n say it was for his nan ;) haha. I had 2 huge tablespoons n sure enough withuin 10 mins my belly was doin that pre-poo gurgling haha, sure sent me into first stages of labour. Go for it hun x

IF you do decide to try- I have heard do the full dose or don't bother, because it will just make you sick. Good luck.

ebay, most chemists dont sell it anymore hun xx

not moaning, nagging or whinging just stating facts. It stimulates the bowels which irritates the uterus and causes contractions. Side effects are diarrhea, vomiting, contractions of the uterus (may or may not be labor) & nausea. It has potential side effects like dehydration (from loose stools and/or vomiting), fetal distress and meconium in the baby. I really wouldnt risk it also cause of the embarrassment if I crapped whilst giving birth. but if you're going to do it anyway, Good Luck and keep hydrated!!

Interesting! Keep us updated if it does/doesn't work!

Don't think I need help with the poo side of things...hubby had the stomach flu yesterday so I'm guessing when that kicks in with me I'll be in labour whilst puking and pooping at the same time! haha

I mentioned it to my OB, and he said that many women who try this route do end up in L&D. The problem is that many times it is not because they are in labor... it is because they are dehydrated with bad diarrhea. Of course, many women in history have used it- some with good results, but I will be steering clear of it. Certainly won't judge anyone who uses it- just be careful :flower:
