Hi ladies,

Please reassure me my 4 month old will be fine!

We were at a birthday party on Saturday and have just found out that the birthday girl now has chicken pox!

NHS states that it is most contagious 1-2 days before the spots appear, we saw them 5 days ago, my guy won't get it will he?! (I really really don't want to have to cancel all our Christmas plans!)

I wouldn't worry too much. If she didn't have obvious spots then, it would be spread by particulate (coughing) as it starts as a respiratory infection. Your LO would have had to be coughed on pretty well and have close contact with the other child, which as a baby, he probably didn't as he was probably in your arms most of the time. Chicken pox swept through my daughter's nursery in the spring. Every single kid from age 9 months to 5 years got it, except for maybe 5 of them. My daughter's best friend got it who she spends all day every day with, sharing snotty tissues, wearing each others clothes and shoes, cuddling at story time. I was sure she would get it. Literally all 20 of the kids she spends every day with 5 days a week got it. She didn't. I have no idea how, but it was fine. So I would try not to worry too much. More than likely, he didn't have much direct contact anyway and obviously even if you do, that doesn't mean it's definite you'll get it either apparently.

I know in my head we should be clear, it would just be my luck for him to get it though!

I'm a pharmacist and have never had chicken pox, and there was a major outbreak when I was pregnant and when DS was 1. Both of us were fine and nothing, try not to worry.

There is a chance e could still get them tbh. It's slim but it's there. My little guy had them at 4 months and they lasted 7 days

If ur little one does get it it'll be literary two weeks after exposure once your lo has the spots they are not contagious if they have stabbed over it took five days for all my son's to be scabbed if u get past two.weeks without spots u will likely be in the clear. Both mine had temps and we're really unwell just before the spots came up. I don't think u can say how likely it is your little one will.get it really its highly contagious so I'd be suspicious but carry on as normal my son got them.from.nursery and he isn't in as much as others who didn't.get it so it really just depends
