I've just discovered around 10 spots on my almost 3 year old daughter's body and am pretty certain she's got chicken pox. I'll be five weeks pg tomorrow and freaking out as I had a miscarriage last year. What do I do? Do I need to call the GP? Midwife? Stay ten feet away from her?!?!

Worried about my little baking cupcake and the fact my daughter's birthday party next week might have to be postponed! She'll be gutted!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi honey. Have you had Chicken Pox before? Please don't worry too much, the chances of it harming baby are minimal if you contract it in the first trimester. I caught a very mild dose of it in my last pregnancy, but had had a missed miscarriage weeks before contracting it, the the pox was absolutely not to blame. If you're very concerned, contact NHS24 and try to get an out of hours appt to have your daughter's case confirmed. Take it easy. Xxxx

Best thing to do is get medical advice hun.

Had a discussion about this with my midwife on Wed and what I took from it is that If you haven't had it, you don't have the immunity which is when the say you should be careful not to catch it but my understanding was that it's you the docs would be worried about not the baby.

But as pp says, best to seek medical advice - NHS 24 are great xx

Thanks ladies.

I've just come off the phone to NHS Direct. I've given over all my daughter's details and mine and they're getting someone to call me back in the next 2 hours.

I had them when I was my daughter's age so fingers crossed I should be immune but I can't help panic after the miscarriage. Hubby is flying home from 2 weeks in India today (will be home in 3 hours) and I have this horrible feeling he hasn't had them!

Trying to keep my distance from her until they ring but as she's so affectionate its very hard! She wanted to check me for spots and kiss my freckles better!

Try not to worry - im sure nhs direct will get back to you soon.

DH might be ok - Thing with chickenpox is that you're infectious before the spots come out which is why its so tough to avoid!

Hopefully it's just a wee rash she's got and nothing to worry about!

Keep us posted xx

If you've had them, you should be ok. Let us know how it all goes. Hope your DD is ok. Plenty of cuddles (once you've been given the ok to), Disney films, calpol and some piriton help relieve the misery. Xxx

Thank you all! Still waiting for NHS to call back, but I'm less worried now! xx
