I'm getting a bit concerned about how rife chicken pox seems to be at the moment. I had a customer at work today who had his young son with him and he was clearly ill so I was making conversation and asking if he was off school today etc etc. His dad said "yeah he's been off a week now with the pox". I know I can't avoid this situation completely but my neighbour's daughter may also have it so it seems like it's doing the rounds at the mo. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit concerned. Think I'm gonna have to educate myself a lot better on chicken pox and how contagious it is, anybody a bit more clued up than me? xx

EDA - I'm pregnant btw, that's why I'm asking.

My eldest has just had it. They are contagious 2 days before they get spots until all the spots are dry/scabbed. That usually takes about a week.
If you had it when you were a kid you should be immune and its only the beginning and end of pregnancy when you really need to worry about it so you should be fine :hugs:

Thanks, I've just phoned my mum, yes I have had it, so phew! Ta

Oh I'm so glad you've had it! I remember a bout of it this time last year and I was worried too until I checked with my mum and found out I'd had it as a child.

My concern this year is that I want Rebecca to avoid it with her operation just around the corner. The trouble is that the contagious period is for several days before the spots appear and a few days after so there really is no knowing if someone has it.

It's horrible isn't it!! :hugs:
