My DH just went to get me chicken salad for lunch at a diner. I just remember that mayo is in that. Can I eat this I am newly pregnant.

If its processed mayo, like from a grocery store then yep its completely fine :)

You think from a diner they would use grocery store mayo not home made? I doubt a diner takes the time to make home made?

I am almost positive you're in the clear. Lol

Thanks ok ill eat it but reduce my mayo intake but I eat 2 much of it. I just don't want something to go wrong especially if I cause it you know.

yes, normal mayonnaise that comes out of a jar or a tub, like the stuff you buy in the supermarket is totally fine. Like Helmanns or any similar brand. In a cafe they are highly unlikely to use homemade because it wouldn't keep long and there would be a risk of food poisoning the customers. Most establishments buy it in big containers from a wholesaler!
Who actually makes mayonnaise in this day and age apart from top chefs?

Very true especially a diner they are not taking the time to make home made mayo.

The foods you need to actually avoid are:
1) undercooked meat especially chicken and burgers
2)raw eggs -some say don't have runny but in the UK hens are vaccinated
3) mould ripened cheeses (brie, camembert, goats cheese) and soft blue cheese. Other soft cheeses like mozarella and philadelphia are fine.
4) raw seafood and shellfish.
5) unwashed fruit and vegetables
6) certain types of fish that are high in mercury. who eats swordfish and shark much anyway.
7) All types of pate and any other liver products.

I think that is about it. The main rule on other food is food hygiene. It must have been kept well refrigerated, been properly reheated until it is hot and stored and prepared in clean conditions. Don't keep leftovers in the fridge and microwave them three days later for example.

Ok so I got these cooked chicken pieces from the store that are kept in the fridge and stay good for a couple weeks. ( I eat them in a weeks time) It comes in a box and zip bag. Am I able to eat that and heat it up daily to make a wrap? Also cheese is ok to eat if cooked like baked ziti with ricota cheese and mozzarella?

The chicken pieces are fine. As long as they are within their printed date. If you heat them up make sure they are hot through.
Mozzarella is absolutely fine hot or cold. So is ricotta. It is just the ones that have the mould crust that aren't, and blue cheese. All other cheese is fine, as long as it is pasteurised (most normal stuff prepackaged in a supermarket is).

Great thanks bc I have baked ziti a lot I love it and I cook that chicken till it is burning hot lol.

Raw or undercooked meat is harmful. A lot of people in the U.S. say that unheated deli meats are a food concern, and also just being careful to make sure that your food is fresh....

Most store bought mayonnaise are fine, however it has to say specifically made with pasteurised eggs on the ingredients list.

Helmans is made with pasteurised eggs, but in the UK I have noticed the home brands do not all say pasteurised.

Asdas and sainsburys does, however Morrisons does not.

If in doubt, stick to Helmans.

Thanks ladies! It's so scary sometimes you want to do everything to protect your baby and then there is a million ways u can harm them with food I'm almost scared to eat!!

If it was not pasteurised and was made with raw eggs, surely it would have to be kept in the chilled cabinet, not in jars, and would not have the long shelf life that shop mayo tends to? I am not an expert in the food industry but I would hazard a reasonable guess that any long-life product is going to have been treated.

I worked in Microbiology for 13 years, and no, just because its long life does not mean pasteurised, salmonella turns up in may many packaged items.

You can just use preservatives (E numbers) to make an item long life. Its the actual eggs in mayyonnaise that are the problem, and they need to be pasteurised.

EDIT TO ADD, all mayonnaise once opened the first time should also be stored in a refridgerator / chiller.

Ah right thanks for that! I presumed that the long life treatment would do it. I will check the labels better in future. I prefer helmanns anyway though, it is much nicer than all the other brands!
