My nephew came out with chickenpox spots today:wacko: Now i'm worried for Noah as he has had loads of contact with him.

Has anyone's LO had chickenpox at 8 weeks? If so any hints and tips to make it easier for them?

I know he might not get it, but I just want to be prepared if he does to try and make it easier for him.

Also what symptoms should I be looking out for, apart from the obvious spots?

Thanks Jo xx

If you have had chicken pox or been vax'ed against it, I think (?) your LO will have received some of your antibodies via the placenta while still in the womb and receives some additional immunity via BM - at least for the first few months of life. I'm sure there are some other mums on this forum who know more about this than I do though, hopefully one of them might answer too.

Edited: sorry just realised I didn't try to answer your question about the sign of chicken pox! I don't know unfortunately. Try not to worry too much - like I said above, as he's still such a little thing he probably has some immunity from you.

goodness, this chickenpox is everywhere- my LO also got it at 8 weeks despite me EBFing (i think ive had chickenpox- but maybe i havnt hence her lack of immunity) she was fussy before spots showed due to aches etc, and we used calamine and she was fine, the spots crusted over after 3 days- but keep a close eye on them as theyre so little x

My baby got chicken pox at 6 weeks even though i was breastfeeding, i just kept mittins on all the time and because he was so young he didn't even realise that he had them x

The younger the better for getting them! The older they are the more it affects them/they itch/pick at scabs etc, But im waiting to see if LO has them also, It takes about 10days from when the spots appeared on the other child to pass over, So you wont know for a while if he has them, Its only contagious from about a day or two BEFORE the spots appeared on the other child, so theres a day or two window in which your LO could have got it. And also contagious after spots are there but by then theyre usually kept in isolation, Just look out for red spots really, Dream cream from Lush is meant to be really good aswell, and of course calmomine, but i was told to look out for ''flu'' signs and symptoms, but you wont know for at least 10days or so!

My LO had chicken pox at 6 months. There's a 2 week incubation period which explained why he was so cranky and just generally poorly. Then the spots came, first pale pink and small - didn't even click it was pox at first, then he developed hundreds of spots. He didn't know he had them and was fine as soon as the spots erupted - but I put scratch mits on him so he wouldnt scratch them and scar, and I bathed him in bicarb of soda which dries them up more quickly, and calomine lotion for the itching.
xx
