child benefit

Well if people are genuinley homeless it wouldnt matter where they are placed as long as they have a roof over their head

i agree with you hun in some ways as i didnt care where i was put if it was a reasonable area but we were so lucky that this house came up when it did :D

Tbh I can see why although some people are homeless or in naff housing why they don't accept shitty area houses! Mod on the another forum I admin not so long ago accepted a house in a shitty area for her an her 3 kids (she was in private) - The end of that story is a smashed up car, her house robbed when she had to flee in the middle of the night from these monsters & they smashed EVERY SINGLE THING with a baseball bat the kids have been left with no toys! I don't mean a little mess they must have been in there hours with a bat smashing everything. She lost all her stuff if it wasn't good enough to steal it was smashed - It was all nearly new as well her Dad helped her with new carpets, couch, cooker, washer an so on so if someone offered me a 3 bed house in a rough area I'd say NO! Happy Christmas that was because it was a couple of weeks before!

Oh blimey just spent my morning reading all this thread!

I know Im likely to ruffle a few feathers but Dionne my houseold income is spot on the same as yours and Kris now I have stopped working, although admittedly our mortgage is half what you pay in rent and we have no depts of loans. And yet dispite being on a pretty average income we have a nice house which we own with a small mortgage and live comfortably with 5 cars, holidays etc. Im carefull with money and am very good at budgeting. And yet my Brother who has again the same household income also struggles and I dont really understand why?

What gets me is when people say they dont work cause they cant afford childcare etc and then moan about never having any money. Are people honestly telling me their partners work 24/7? I do not have the option of family or friends to look after my son and Idont want to put him in childcare. But that doesnt mean I cant work! If your partner works days get an evening job as a barmaid/waitress or cleaner etc or a weekend job or something. Can your partner not look after your children for a couple of evenings a week? I did this and increased our family income by a further £200 a month, and doing this doesnt even affect the paultry child tax credits etc that we get. So I really dont see any excuse why anyone cannot work just cause they have kids. (with exception of single parents who obviously dont have a partner to look after the kids.)

Also to say you have no qualifications etc doesnt mean you cant better yourself. If your on a low income you can get study fees paid for and even with no GCSEs can still study for a degree, and if your not academic you can do courses in childcare or engineering etc, so at least once your children do start school you can start a career yourself.

So thats my 2 cents, and its not aimed specifically at anyone.

i have found alot of Jobs nowa days are not bothered about qualifications. i can blag my way through most things though
for my Job at bt all they were interested in was comintment and comunication skills

i am looking to work on the burger vans at the weekend at the car boots. as i need to get my car back on the road and its going to cost a fair bit to get working again. im not scared of a bit of hard work. although i do hate the smell of grease

I was brought up in a 3 bed council house, with 2 sisters. My two youngest sisters shared a room (until I moved out around 6 years ago when Lindsey was 14 and Emily 7) and my mum never expected to be given a 4 bed house just because she had 3 kids? I don't understand why some people with council houses expect to be given bigger houses the more children they decide to have? Why is it the council's responsibility to house you in a bigger place?
For those that want to buy a house there are ways to get a mortgage that you need, our mortgage repayments will be £660 interest only (approx £1000 repayment), we will be sacrificing and budgeting our arses off for that, but it will be worth it in the long run for the kids. I would go without anything for my children - what really pisses me off is the people that moan about being skint and not being able to afford this and that for their babies but smoke? Um, surely that would be the first thing you'd give up?
And I'm sorry but if you find it hard to cope on the child benefit that you're being given as it doesn't cover nappies, milk, tins of food and wetwipes then
1. Make you're own food. A carrot costs about 8p.
2. Use reusable wipes, spending nearly £7 a week on wetwipes is so much money!
3. Reusable nappies save shedloads of cash in the long run, particularly if you plan on having more children.
4. Sorry, some people might not like this, but only 2% of women can't breastfeed for genuine health reasons. Breastfeeding is free and the healthiest thing you can do for your baby. If you don't want to breastfeed and you're in a situation where you're not going to be able to afford to adequately feed your child with formula, should you really be having kids?

Apologies in advance if I've offended anyone, I just get fed up of hearing people whinge on about how they can't afford this and that, the government should be giving them more cash, when really they could be helping themselves and their families by pulling their finger out their asses and doing something about their situation instead of expecting other people to for them.

i have looked into a mortgage and my credit is pants. so no where will give me 100% mortgage so i need to save the deposit for £100k house i need 5k.
but then for £100k i would not find a 3 bed.

so we have decided to save as much as we can now and by the end of the yr should have about 7k deposit and will get a nice 2 bed house the kids will share untill they are 8 then i will see if i can get a 3 bed.

its just hard forking out £620 a month rent while saving for our deposit.
but will be so worth it i cant wait to have my own place i have so many ideas for a home but cant do it when its not my house.

Have you spoken to a mortgage advisor, they can often get you more money and a better deal than dealing with the mortgage companies directly. At the end of the year it might be worth speaking to one :) Our household income is around the same as yours is at the moment (but we had a deposit for the new place from this place so needed a 85% mortgage). You could also look at having an interest only mortgage so for the first couple of years whilst you're bubbas are growing and you're financial situation is at it's most stretched you just pay off the interest. Then go onto a full repayment mortgage when you're more flush and stable. That's what we're doing anyway. :)

"interest only mortgage" easy to get?

I'm confused with all the mortgage stuff esspecially as OH has no proof of income right now :? Will do soon though :D :D

untill next yr i am only going back to work 2 days a week so i am thinking about waiting untill next year when i go back more hours as our income will be better then we can lend more money. but it seems that by the time i have saved the deposit the house price would have rised

but some one has told me that new developments can pay your deposit. so thats some thing i am going to look into

only bummer is i have been spoilt with renting lovely houses i could never in a billion yrs afford

All good points Kina (especially about the making your own food and breastfeeding), but I do have to disagree with you about the above one. My ex husband left me with shitloads of debt, which ended up going to ccj's as they wouldn't accept the reduced payments I offered. Thankfully, I am now completely debt free having paid them all, but I have a negative credit rating. Unfortunately, DH was a nightmare with money before he met me, and he also has ccj's. Therefore we cannot go to a 'normal' lender. They won't touch us. We have to go to a specialist lender who's repayments anything from 1% - 3% above the high street lenders. And you MUST have 5% deposit - they will not do 100% mortgages. The most they will lend is 3x joint salary. So, DH is on £13k a year, I'm on £24k (but this financial year, it will only be £12k due to maternity leave), so that makes a normal years joint income £37k, which I know is above and beyond what most people on here earn. But, the cheapest, grottiest, doer-upper 3 bed semi here is £145k, which is still way beyond what they would loan us, even if we could somehow get together a 5% deposit. :( And even if we could somehow get it, we could never afford the repayments in a month of Sundays. They would be around £1k a month. Add nusery fees onto this when I go back work(which we will get hardly any help with as my earnings are good), and my wage wouldn't even pay the mortgage and nursery. :(

It's almost impossible for first-time buyers to get on the property ladder, and the government need to start doing something about it. But they won't because while the house prices are so sky high, they earna fortune from stamp duty.

*stopped ranting now*

If you're looking at a new development then there are often bonuses of buying a new houses including that they'll pay your deposit and/or stamp duty. Plus things like free carpets etc.

Wobbles we got an interest only mortgage through an advisor with Abbey National. For us we didn't have to provide proof of income as we were putting down 15% deposit and we've borrowed approx 6 times DH wage. I would always recommend speaking to a MA, they can get you the best deals.

Apologies if I offended you because although we have had debt in the past (and am now acquiring a further £10k worth for home improvements and consolidation when we move), neither of us have had CCJs etc so haven't had trouble getting a mortgage, so I'm wrong in assuming that everyone can get a decent mortgage. I do agree that house prices are far too high - our place that we're getting is an ex council house (next door to my mums actually lol), and needs complete remodernisation. It's a 3 bed and we're paying £171k for it. We were stretching ourselves even further but pulled out of that house sale because of costs. In my village a studio flat that was going for £27k 5 years ago now is selling at £97k, £70k in 5 years!!!!!

Hi amanda.
i am the same as you with very bad credit kris is the same too.

i thought if i saved my deposit then i would get one, i am gutted now that it is only 3x the income

me and kris are having to look into bedworth. i no its not a very nice area but 3 beds round there are about 90k.
but the repayments with our credit is going to kill us.

its so hard. i wish i got a house before the babies. then i could have stayed at home and saved shitloads

God we've all wished we saved money before we had bubbas, I cringe when I think what I wasted in the past!

I wish I'd saved money to have bubbas :?

Dionne can I ask how you have bad credit if you have no loans, cc's etc? Sorry not meaning to be intrusive :D

Cause I will happily share my debt and reasons with the lot of you! :D

I have bad credit for being a little OTT with clothes shopping/credit a couple of years ago

Now I'm in debt with my bank & only one more debt that creeped up on me to pay off which is just over £100 (pleased about that) :D

i have £400 mobile bill from 3 yrs ago i moved house and have never got intouch with them.
i have 1 credit card with a limit of £200 i battered it and now with the late payments its doubled. i have £400 catolog, but i am paying that of £50 a months at the mo.
i have a out standing council tax that went to the debit collectors and i am paying that of monthly
i owe bt £300 but am paying that of monthly
kris has loads from before we were together.
and i owe car tax as i never claimed it of the road for the last 6 months so they are back dating it :o

so i have ccj's etc

OH and I have:

10k loan
12k on car finance
5k on cc
1k overdraft usually maxed out

and I have a 75k mortgage :D

We pay the payments each month...just :D
