I'm definitely going to go the cloth route when we have our baby, for many, many reasons. But it just crossed my mind: how do ya'll go about cleaning the cloth nappies? Do you wipe the "extra" off with tissue first, flush it down the toilet, and then just toss the nappies in the wash?

Our baby is exclusively breastfed so his poo is runny and yellow - we just chuck the dirty nappies in the bucket and straight into wash from there. They come out clean :)

I put poo in the toilet and then wash. When they are weaned and have solid poo this is really easy as it just falls into the toilet! Before then I used to sometimes quickly use the shower head to shower into the toilet, but I'm a bit precious about keeping my nappies nice! I might get a diaper sprayer in the next place we move into (before we have another we need to move). You can also use paper liners to just get rid of the poo into the toilet which is what they do at my DD's nursery (daycare).

poo in the loo, shower off anything that is still on the nappy.

nappy in machine :) done! x

With a newborn, if he/she is EBF, you can just toss the soiled diapers in a wetbag or pail (we use a hanging wetbag) and then they come out clean.

Now that I have a toddler, we use disposable liners so when he poops, the liners/poop get flushed down the toilet (no fuss, no mess, no touching) and then the diapers go in the wetbag.

As for our actual wash routine, after 2-3 days, I dump all the diapers into our washing machine and do a prewash on cold with nothing in it. Then a hot wash with a cloth diaper-friendly detergent (no additives, whiteners, fabric softners, etc), followed by an extra rinse cycle. They come out clean every time!! Then it's into the dryer or if it's nice out, on the laundry line outside. :)

Awesome, thanks for all the advice!

Also, yes, what detergent do you recommend? I currently buy this:

i was my nappies with napisan and fairy non bio on a 40 pre-rinse and then a 30 wash.

Also did you know Arm & Hammer test thier products on animals? I dont know your personally opinion on this and not meaning to preach just thought id let you know :)

xx

We use ECOS laundry detergent. Right now I have the Magnolia and Lilies one which isn't as ideal as the Free and Clear but it still works well. :)

It just has a few extra ingredients which aren't fantastic for cloth diapers. The more natural the better!

No, I didn't know that!! Thank you! :thumbup:I won't be buying from them anymore.

does heat setting in the dryer make a difference? A lady told me to put it on tumble dry/low heat, but it has literally taken all day and they are still not dry, so they are in the heat dry right now.

I'm not actually sure about the temperature while drying. I've just always done hot because it gets everything dry nice and quick. :)
