Our urologist just prescribed my husband 25 mg of clomid a day. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with men taking clomid?
DH obviously has low count (36 million total with 14 million total motile sperm)

Once he gets his count up a little, I'm getting on it myself to up our chances. Hopefully, we'll have a clomid baby! :haha:

Wow his count isn't very low hon at all as 20 million is the start of normal...many women get pregnant with even 10-20 million...Wonder why they want him on Clomid... Did they do any labs on him?

Anyhow, hope you get a BFP

I am confused- I thought Clomid worked by tricking your body into thinking it was low in estrogen - then producing more for better egg production...
What does it do for a man?

Promotes FSH/LH production..... same concept except it is supposed to increase sperm production as opposed to egg production in women. It only works if the man has low FSH/LH to begin with though and usually does not work, but can in some cases.

My husband is in the normal range for FSH/LH but he's on the "lower" end of normal.
Clomid stimulates the brain to produce more Follicle Stimulating Hormone. In women, this tells your ovaries to produce more eggs. In men, it tells their testicles to produce more sperm.
I hope we get our BFP soon. I have not yet gotten my period this month so he may not even need the clomid if we get a BFP this month! I hope so!
Doctor said we have about an 8%-15% chance of getting pregnant without clomid right now whereas normal couples have 25%-30%, so I guess he's just trying to up our chances before we head on to ICSI in 6 months. Good luck to you all as well! :hugs:

Clomid works in a male the same as it works in a female by blocking the Estrogen monitoring sites on the gland. Testosterone levels in a man are monitored in his body by Estrogen level in the blood. Yes guys do make some Estrogen. So by tricking the body to thinking it didn't make enough Estrogen, it produces more Testosterone which in turn causes the count to go up.

Just found that tidbit....not that I really understand it!!!

well I am glad to hear you have a good doctor and not one that just throws meds at you. You have a decent chance and good luck to you
