me and my oh have been talking and getting in a bit of a debate about it.
i have said i dont want lo to play computor games that are to old for him because the violance is to much when he gets older but he thinks its fine and says its just a game.
But i have a nephew and he is 10 and plays games way to old for him and he is running around with play guns and puting at my head he has learnt swear woods of them. i wouldnt buy my child a porno at 10 nowing its an 18 so why is a computor game alright.
anyone have any thoughts to help us out?

I was watching a study where they had a group of kids who played video games and it showed them to not be as caring after they had played them

You wouldnt let a ten year old watch an 18 film, so why would you with a game?? I personally wont let my lo play any games that are too old for her, she will have to wait untill she is the right age.

xxx

My child won't be playing anything of the sort until they reach the age that is given on the box. If it's an an 18 so be it. Like that for a reason IMO.

i agree with you all just trying to get my partner to understand

Ages are on the games for a reason...
I fully intend on sticking to that!

were doing this to see whos right i think hes getting the point now hahahaha woman are always right men should no by now

I did about this in my psychology degree and there is a hell of a lot of research to say that that there is a link!

Let's face it... there are more crimes happening nowadays with the outburst of violent video games than there was 50 years ago!

true but a thousand other things could have contributed to that, not video games alone

violent video games do affect children negatively.

I don't think it's appropriate for kids to be playing a game that's clearly marked for older ages (15 plus and 18 plus etc). I know a good few kids from my son's school (he's 7) who are allowed to play Gears of War and Grand Theft Auto, for example (both of which are 18+). My husband is an avid gamer (it's his one and only hobby and it's fine by me as he plays the mature games at night). I've seen what these games entail and it is clear as day to me that my son should not be allowed to play them at his age.

I think a lot of parents are either clueless about the content of some games when they buy them for their children, or conversely, they laugh it off and make it ''no big deal'', forgetting that a child's brain simply does not operate the way theirs does as adults. They reckon that because their child ''seems ok and not affected negatively'' by these games, that it's proof in the pudding that it's ok for them to play them.

Nothing could be further from the truth and there are plenty of studies to demonstrate the links between exposure to these types of games and their development and attitudes. It's silly to think children are not affected by these things. There's plenty of time for them to play such games when they reach the appropriate ages for them, and in addition, there are PLENTY of age-appropriate games for them to play in the meantime.

18 games are rated 18 for a reason. But I don't think computer games are solely responsible for violent behaviour. Films and tv programmes are full of it.
