Hey everyone my name is Eric im currently expecting my first child, my fiancee is exactly 33 wks and 6 days. She started showing preterm symptoms wednesday morning so we rushed to the ER where they kept us all day monitoring my fiancee and daughters hearts. She received an dose of steroid shots, one that day and the next twenty-four hours later she is currently as of wednesday 2cm dilated and was having close contractions on wednesday that they slowed via IV. My question is that she is suppose to be on bedrest for a week but returned to work yesterday where she is an cashier will her being on her feet for a nice amount of hours speed up the baby's journey here I really want them both to atleast make it to 35 or 36 weeks but what are your thoughts or concerns if any we go monday for an checkup so will be updating then any tips or help would be greatly appreciated thanxs.

Bedrest would of been better as keep moving around might bring on the labour

Hi. I'm a little over 33 weeks and had preterm symptoms as well - was monitored in the hospital a few days ago but contractions stopped so they let me go. My doctor put me on bedrest and requested I not go to work, although I am working from home and she ok'd that. The nurses at the hospital said that some women are 5-6cm dilated and make it to their due date - just how their bodies work. But I would probably err on the side of caution and take it easy. Standing isnt as straining as walking, doing other things but she should definetly take breaks and sit down every now and then at least.

Also, she's pretty much 34 weeks - at this stage, the baby will be fine. 37 weeks is full term so 34-36 is not that far off - if it comes now, it will be alright ;)

She needs bedrest. NO WORK!!! Good luck!

if she has been told bedrest then that is what she should be doing!! Standing about will be letting gravity do its thing where labour and birth are concerned...... bring it on faster!!!

They dont advice bedrest for no reason so she should be doing as she is told even though it is boring and hard to just lay around doing nothing. The closer to term she can get the better for baby :)

Id definitely recommend bedrest or at least to just relax as much as possible, being upright and walking around is only gonna help baby on its way down x

Congratulations!!

I'd say she needs to stay on bed rest... has the doctor given a certificate for her to stay off work? if so she should use it :)

I think that there's definitely a chance that her being on her feet could affect things, that will be why the doctors told her to be on bed rest! She shouldn't be working at all in my opinion.

Not sure what her reason is for not following the Doctor's orders. I have been on bedrest for over a month and will be until delivery, hopefully she has a very good reason! Doctors do not order bedrest unless last resort. Thinking you may want to have a chat with her about her decision!

She needs to be off her feet. I'm surprised she wasn't signed off work??

Ooh, if doctor has said bed rest, she needs bed rest!!! Working would not be the most sensible idea! Think my hubby would have locked me in the house if it'd have been me, lol!xx
