I think someone is getting their wires crossed somewhere, and I'm not really worried but I am curious!

My wee one was born 7lb and 52cm, so a decent size but definitely not massive.

She was measured at 7 weeks old and was 10lb 2oz and only 54 cm, and again at 9 weeks when she weighted 11oz. Weight wise she is right on the 50th centile.

I really questioned the measurement taken at the 7 week appointment, there is no way she was only 2cm bigger than at birth! The doctor also commented that she is "tiny" yet she was in 0-3m clothes, bang in what she should be, and she is now growing out of them length wise at 10 weeks.

She's always been a long baby rather than a chunky baby, she has got a small head but this was always smaller on scans and I have a tiny head too (I wear kids hats and can't get glasses to fit me, lol) so I'm really confused about how she is apparently "tiny" when she's on the 50th centile for weight - I'm sure the doctor didn't measure her right but she even said "look how tiny she is for her age"

I'm now starting to think that maybe she thought she was older? Which is quite unprofessional in my opinion since he ha her date of birth and growth chart in front of her, which showed her growing along he 50th centile! Lol.

Just checked the growth chart for length and apparently she has gone from between the 75th and 91st centile down to the 9th centile? If the doctor felt this was the case then surely they should have investigated?

yes i would definitely question the person doing the measuring. A drop of that amount would definitely be investigated quite urgently if it were a true drop. xx

When I took my DD to the doctor for her two week checkup, he said they're moving towards not doing length checks at all anymore because they can be so inaccurate. My daughter was measured 20 inches at birth and then 2 days later measured a full inch more. I think it depends a lot on who is doing the measuring and what their technique is, etc. I would focus more on weight gain for the time being.

Thanks ladies, I really don't think she is behind on growth at all, she is nearly too tall for 0-3 clothes at 10 weeks and apparently they are for 56-62cm so there's no way she can only be 54cm in my eyes!

She doesn't sound tiny to me! HVs and doctors ALWAYS plotted LO's weight/height in the wrong place on her graph and often put her at the wrong age, making it look like she was up and down centiles several times. I used to go through and check and correct as neccessary after every appointment.

As long as your baby is growing and meeting milestones, then sod it. :)

It was probably your LOs newborn measurements that were way out. Same thing happened to my my middle girl. She was (apparently) 56.5cm at birth... Puting her above the top centile, and at 9 weeks 58cm. So a 1.5cm growth

She definitely was not what they say she was at birth. She was, and still is my shortest. At 2, she is on the 9th centile for height (just outgrowing 12-18mths) and her 14 month sister isn't far away from her!
I dont think they even like to take length measurements as they can be so inaccurate.

She sounds like she is doing perfectly, I wouldnt worry at all :) x

Thats unusual, my DS was 7lbs and 51 in length but was born in 9th centile and then at 12 months he was on the 4 centile, so dropped a bit - 18 pounds. He's birth weight was the same as your LOs, just my boy was a bit shorter so how comes yours was 50th and mine was 9th? I wonder whether its different for boys and girls.

I wouldn't worry too much, i don't think they drastically change in height at that age. I think DS was the same, went to 54cm.

Why don't you ry measuring yourself for peace of mind.

My DS is now back on 9th Centile and is 20lbs at 14 months so back on track, i think they sometimes have growth spurts, nothing to worry about. As long as your DS is happy and healthy.

My LG was never measured for length before 1yr. I was told by Dr and HV it's because it's so inaccurate due to babies curling up or moving around.
