Hey everyone, really need some advice. I had my anomaly scan last week when I was exactly 21 weeks, the sono said everything looked fine and sent me away. However I have been looking through the measurements and one the BDP is not even on the centile line it was 44.4mm, this works out about 3% all other measurements look normal. I'm confused why they didn't mention this as its seems such an important measurement.
Has anyone else had anything similar? xx

i didnt want to read and run, but i havent a clue what the BDP actually means???

Im guessing if what there saw was good enough for them, then i wouldnt try to worry or if you are worried mebies ring your midwife??? x

It is really common for a babe's bpd to be smaller. Your baby has a more oval head shape. This can change by the fetus' position, usually once a baby turns to cephalic (head down) the head shape changes and rounds out. Babies in breech tend to have a more narrow head. Do not worry, as long as the other measurements are normal and your physician/MW are not worried.

heh my baby A has a bpd at 98% but a normal head circumference. measurements are never exact and a "smidge" off can make a huge difference since we are looking at millimeters.

Thank you all for your replies I am going to go to the maternity drop in centre on Wednesday for reassurance. xx

I think take any measurements with a grain of salt unless they specifically mention then to you. Whenever I've had any of my scans (I've had 4 so far, including doing the 20 week one twice since they couldn't do everything they wanted the first time), I've always watched them take the measurements really closely and they do it so fast, that I can't see how they can be all that precise. For us, the cerebral measurement was a little on the low side, but when I looked it up, even 0.5 mm would have made a huge difference (that's so small!). If they are rushed or just can't get a clear picture, it's so easy to be way off. Neither the sonographer (who was also a midwife) or my usual midwife were concerned about it at all. If there is something that raises a red flag (I also have a low placenta), they'll definitely talk it over with you. It must not be something they're worried about, so try not to overthink it. I panicked about our low measurement for a few days thinking something was wrong, until I researched the normal measurements and found we really were pretty close to normal, and more than likely it's just a matter of how the measurement is taken that can throw you above or below average.
