Hi ya took Daniel for his 7 month review yesterday with our horrible hv, we go to a baby stay and play every week where i get him weighed and ask questions to the Children's nurse who is always very helpful.

Then yesterday had our 7 month review my hv is old and have never really liked her if you get what i mean. She gave Daniel some tiny bricks for him to hold and pass from one hand to another which he does do at home but at the moment everything goes straight into his mouth as he is teeething. And he put the whole thing in his mouth and was gagging and she just sat there. he has three teeth, He can sit he drinks water from a beaker which is good. He hasn't yet said mama or dada yet but he is very vocal. She told me that i dont speak to him enough which is oblivisoly not right as i am always talking to him stupid woman.
Then she asked how much milk he has and asked how many bottles he has. So i told her that he has 3 7oz bottles aday we have just dropped him from 4 bottles. She turned round and said he only needs 2 bottles am so confused as someone else told me that milk is the most important thing in a babies life for the first year,

So my questions is Do i listen to the hv or do what i think is right. And also just was wondering what your 7 month old says many thanks sorry for the rant xx

oohhh he is doing fine - personally go with your gut - the boys were on three bottles until two weeks ago. tbh they didnt need it but I wanted to give it to them - I too was told at their 8 months visit they didnt need them.

Sam wasnt even sitting at seven months - they all do things sooo differently I have two very normal very differnet almost ten month olds and they have their own strengths and weaknesses - just like adults.

My boys are VERY noisy and vocal I think its due to having two but then again I am a gobby wotsit so it could be hereditary lol.

I always took on all the opinions did my research and did it my way - hth xx

No don't listen to her! How can she tell how much you talk to your LO just by spending 10mins with him? I'd be seriously hacked off at that comment! Alfie has his vocal moments but then he has quiet times too. He can say mama in context because he cries and says it whilst looking at me, he's also said 'cheeky' after copying me a couple of times, but other than that its just babbling and he doesn't really know any other proper words.

He's having 3 meals a day now but I still offer him the breast whenever he wants it, he has quite a few feeds over night and still has about 4/5 feeds during the day.

Take it with a pinch of salt hun!

Aww thanks vicky from day one my hv has been awful Daniel was born with a big head well not that big doesnt look any different to any other babies his age but she made me paranoid form then on. Yes babies do progress at different times as my friends baby is 3 days older that Daniel and he has no teeth and cant roll. I think i will keep him on 3 bottles till after christmas then see how it goes. By the way your boys look so cute xx

Omg, i have to go for this check next week, also never been happy with our hv...
I wouldn't (and i will not) take seriously such a things, my LO has 4 6/7oz bottle, breakfast, lunch and dinner and he is happy! So i am! I had so many confused information from hv from the very beginning that tbh i don't care what they say! I know my baby is growing fine and that's all i care. If you are happy jow your LO is developing just stick with your way. Hugs hun!

Aww thanks Feltzy yeah i dont know how they can judge a baby on a appointment for 30 mins. Daniel has 3 meals a day aswell he loves his food and milk xx

Thankyou yes he is a very happy baby and never hardly cries so cant complain i think next time i have a baby i wont be having her as my hv lol. Don't worry about your appointment like you say as long as they are happy healthy and growing thats all that matters. xx

I find it interesting that different places have different checks.

Here, LO was seen at 8 weeks, and that's it now until her 1 year review!

I'd ignore her hun, he sounds perfect x

God HV's can be so bloody patronising!! Take no notice!

Sophie still has 3 bottles a day, and has only just dropped to that. She does babble a lot but none of it makes sense.
Also she can crawl but cant sit for very long at all, how does that work?!! LOL

My hv has never done anything like that :O just weighs and measures and asks do i have any questions. Do they normally do some sort of test on them like that? I would have kicked her if she was acting like that.

This is exactly why we never see ours, she's just useless and I really don't value her opinions at all. Don't pay any attention to your HV, she doesn't know your son. He sounds like he's doing great so keep doing what you're doing!!

I'd say just do what you think is right!
Obviously if you had any concerns then it would be different ... but she sounds a bit clueless and patronising.
Also, I wouldnt bother trying to get into discussions with her ... 'that type' of HV just needs a nod and agreement then just do what you think is best :)

Btw, the things she did sound like the things that my HV did for the 9 month check, so I would have thought that doing those things at 7 months is really good?! My LO's nearly 1 now and doesnt say proper words (well not definitely), I thought the average first 'proper words' and reference to people was 13-15 months or something like that

Omar is 1 yr & he still drinks 3 bottles. At 7 months the min is 18-21 oz with his 3 solids. at 9 + months he only needs 20 oz with his solids. 2 milk feeds is usually offered to Los who'r close to 1 year. I think you'r doing great hun. xx

Thankyou for all your help feel a bit happier now Daniel does babble alot so am not to worried feel like an idiot today tho as all i have been saying to him is mamamamamamamama lol

Ignore her.

Our LO still has 3 bottles (including one at midnight) at 10 months, as well as 3 meals a day. Not ideal but if he wants it then.....

Talking: He also doesn't say very much even now. He's found his voice a bit recently, but could walk before we got anything that even vaguely sounded like a word. Incidently mamma and dadda weren't the first noises either. He seems to favour "AY" and "hiya".

Sounds to me like your little one is doing well, you know him best, do what you think is right.

Just do what you feel is right for him, sounds like you are doing a grand job. I find the HV's crap. I was telling one that I was concerned by my sons reflux, as I said it to her my LO choked and acid came out of his nose and mouth. He was most upset, she just said, yes that's quite normal, just persevere with it, it should stop fully by the time he's 1. wtf??? Hopeless! I just looked into things myself and got him sorted out, he's lactose intolerant so that was causing the reflux etc. Nice of her to take the time to find out for herself. Sorry, rant over!! lol

I never realised quite how different babies could be at the same age until Lex started doing stuff. He is just over 7months can say dada and very occasionally mama but other than that is really quiet but he can stand holding onto furniture and has been able to crawl since just over 6month. Mills on the other hand was saying mama, dada, baba and babbling constantly but could only sit and wouldnt even try to army crawl let along crawl or try to stand.
Id just ignore ur HV personally. Ive also had plenty of HVs tell me what i am doing is wrong but both my kids are happy and healthy and thats all that matters. On the bottle front i give Lex as much milk as he wants, sometimes thats 12oz a day other times it could be 30oz i honestly dont keep count! I also bf on demand so he deffo has more than is 'recommended' but he is on the 50th percentile so i cant be doing that bad. He also has 2/3 meals a day. x
