Hi

I have been spotting on and off ( every couple of days) for the last 4 weeks, I've had a couple of episodes where it was a little more than spotting but always stops quickly and never very heavy or painful.

I'm 8 weeks and had a scan yesterday, we saw the heartbeat and everything looked ok. No obvious cause for the bleeding but it is still really worrying me.

I've already had 2 miscarriages (both around 5-6 weeks) and am scared I'm heading towards a 3rd one. Has anyone had this constant spotting in their 1st trimester? I'm seeing my gynaecologist on monday - is it worth asking for extra progesterone? Is there anything that could stop the spotting? I'm desperate for this baby to be ok and seeing the heartbeat was just amazing.

Any advice welcome!!!!!!

Love rosie xxxx

Me I've had spotting when I started 200mg of Progesterone. Last Wednesday and Thursday I had so much blood it look like I was MC or light period. Then it went away...I still feel pregnant...

I am having the exact same issue. Since the day after I got my BFP I have been spotting on and off and it varies from light pink, light brown, tan, darker brown and reddish-brown. It happens every few days, it will be there when I wipe after going to the bathroom. It will be there the next couple times I go to the washroom, then it more or less stops (just the occasional bit of light brownish/tan cm) then a couple days later it all starts again. I'm sorry if this is TMI, but I have noticed that it tends to be after I have a bowel movement...and I've read that the straining/pressure of a BM can cause spotting in pregnant women, so I am hoping this is the case.

I suffered a miscarriage earlier this year, so I know how worrisome this all is.

I am waiting for an ultrasound, which is scheduled for Tuesday. My HCG levels have been rising and as of yesterday (6w0d) they were almost 43,000. I am on bedrest until then (and let me tell you, "bedrest" is boring!)

If you have seen the heartbeat I think that is a good sign. I am hoping that I see a heartbeat on Tuesday! My OBGYN said that it is not unusual for women to spot throughout a pregnancy and not have any issues with it. I am hoping this is the case.

Good luck, please keep us updated on how it goes.

I spotted 4 different time periods during my 1st Tri. Went in for a scan at 9 weeks and they could'nt see anything, went in at 11 weeks and they found a small hematoma that was leaking blood...it was small and not harmful to the babies, but it was kind of hard to see...the US tech didn't see it til the very end....just throwing this out there as a hematoma could be the cause...at my 14 wk US the tech could not find the hematoma and they usually just go away. Hope this helps some hun.

I am experiencing the same thing. I went off of birth control a few months ago because for over a YEAR I have had spotting (and sometimes heavier) in between my periods. I saw blood last Sunday and last night/this morning. I am really hoping everything is okay. I have heard that if you don't have any cramps, it's probably ok. Called the nurse this morning and she didn't seem too concerned.

Hi needhope, just wanted to let you know that based on my bloodwork everything is ok. I'm hoping the same is true for you and all goes well in your exam on Monday! I've heard from others here that spotting, even constant, is fairly normal. It's addressed in the book "What to expect when you're expecting" - maybe you want to pick up a copy?

Had spotting for 2 weeks in 1st tri, around 8-9 weeks. Dr. put me on oral Prometrium and it stopped. Since then, I've also had spotting on and off in 2nd and 3rd tri, too, and am on bed rest now. The baby has been growing perfectly all this time. They did tell me if you have it 1st tri you're more likey to have it later, as well. So just something to look out for when you get to that point (and you WILL get to that point). I know how scared you must be, but it'll be ok. :hugs:

I would definitely ask for the progesterone. My dr. said the purpose of it was to calm your uterus down.

Hi

Thanks for all the advice. Am now 9 weeks 3 days and scan yesterday shows baby is doing really well!

Have got progesterone now and that seems to have stopped the spotting. They have said to take it until 12 weeks and then just stop - which is a bit scary? Can this harm the pregnancy?

I would definitely ask them to monitor your progesterone levels at twelve and thirteen weeks to make sure your placenta is making enough. Its a good sign that your pregnancy went so well for so long without it.

They told me the exact same thing...to just stop at 12 weeks. By that time the placenta will have completely taken over and you don't need the prog. anymore. I was scared, too, but stopped and all was ok.

Glad everything is ok hun x Im on proesterone since monday and found a little bit of light brown after a bowel movement [sorry tmi] haha im only early and have had 4 miscs so know how worrying it all is x x
